$2.1M to eat with Buffett,

China
June 30, 2008 3:23am CST
yesterday, I heard about that a Hong kong-based fund manager known as the "godfather of private equity funds", won the chance to have lunch with billonaire Warren Buffett by bidding $2.11M. what do you think of that, do you think he can get what he wants to know just during a lunch, or he just wants to be famous by this lunch. I'm looking forward to your opinions.

If I'm rich, I'll do that like him too, everyone has his purpose when he decides to do something. I would like to the reason why He decides to use such a big sum of money to have a dinner with Buttett. I feel that nowadays many people, rich or poor, like to hype to get more publicity. just like some actors. a little funny.

I can't agree with you more, so short a period is not enough to know about Buffett and his success story well. But the money is big enough to make people to remember him as a young inventor. if the money is used for charity, I think Buffett is doing a good favor for those poor. thanks for your comment.

I really do hope that the auction was for charity! I guess there are worse things the winning bidder could have blown $2.11m on, providing that it was for charity. My guess is that he's hoping that some of Warren Buffett's legendary magic will rub off him during the course of the meal! Failing that, perhaps he'll pick up a tip or two.

All I can say is that I hope that at this lunch the food must have been so devine that he would not want to eat for the next three days because everything else he touched would not seem the same and I also hope that the lunch conversaion was so inspiring that he went to a religious institution and vowed to be good for the next three months of his life - because at that price tag, that is most definately what I would have expected out of lunch. Having said that, Warren Buffet is probably more than a legend, particularly is you are in the stock broking business in Hong Kong or Mainland China, which is ironically still a communist country. As such, you can actually expect someone to do something like bid an outrageous fortune just to have lunch with Warren Buffet. As far as stock market insane Chinese are concerned this guy is doing what any basketball fanatic might have done to have a meal with Michael Jordan and shoot some one-on-one with the great man himself. - It sounds crazy but I guess its a cultural thing.

If he learns nothing, then I hope he can afford to blow $2.11M!!

Thanks for your comment, GreenMoo, how are things going with your lovely boy? Buffett is a legend, I admire him very much, I'm just wondering how much he will learn from Buffett. Maybe nothing.
