Today on Oprah, they had a lady on there who has been studying baby language. She said that babies use their own language to communicate to us. I always thought they do try and talk to us, however I did not know they had specific sounds meaning different things. Here is some baby words and their meanings:
# neh - means baby is hungry
# owh - sleepy
# heh - discomfort
$ eair - lower gas
# eh - needs to burp
(for babies 0-3 months old)
(Oprah Show, 2008)
I found this fascinating as they then showed the babies making these sounds and it fully sounds like they are saying these words when they cry. They then tested this with having 5 mothers and their babies their. These mothers had been struggling with their babies not knowing how to settle them. They learnt about this baby language. Now their babies are alot more settled.
So have you heard about this baby language before? What do you think about it? I think it seems very accurate after watching videos on these babies making these sounds. My baby is now 4 months old, I am going to see if I can recognise these communication methods. However she said it is mainly for babies 0-3 months.

Wow, didn't know you have never had kids. If you don't mind me asking, did you choose to not have kids?
Yes I think this baby communication would be both helpful to young mothers and first time mothers and men, he he.

Hi Kiran,
I would love to have had kids, but I had three miscarriges so I said enough is enough, I couldnt go through all that heartache again. Then by the time I dedided to start again, it was too late I'd had the change. My sister's kids made up for it. I love kids, now I adore my friend's three children,Charlotte Rosie and Oliver.
Love
Tamarafireheart.

Yes I knew that they try to communicate, it took me near enough four goes to get it, but by the time my daughter was born I knew everything that she said to me. It is fascinating, I dont watch Oprah but I have seen this on something else before.
Gosh, I am finding it really hard to type, I have got music playing and I keep typing the words of the songs down! I have to keep checking what I have wrote. I cannot concentrate at all with it!

Lol, you would be a supermum after 4, they would just look at you and you would know what they are thinking. I definately understand and know alot more about babies the 3rd time round. This time it feels like a breeze, she is so easy to look after.
That is funny, lol, typing words to songs as you write. You must be getting pretty involved into your songs. Earth back to Mylot, he he. Us woman are multitaskers remember, hmmmm, my next discussion. Thanks for that idea.

I absolutely love my music, I found a site through reading discussions on here, where I can just get more or less any song I want. I have had such fun getting all the songs from my teen years and all my current faves!
The only trouble with it is I have to remember the names of the songs or who did it, so I have been going through my cd collection to get them and then putting them on a playlist. I had a great day singing to them today!xx

It may be possible that babies communicate through their own langauge. I think mothers also understand their through their babies moments, expressions and tender voices, what they actually want. It is a sweet relation between a mother and child, where mother can understand what a baby wants.
You have given quite an interesting information, hope it will be helpful to others too.

Yeah let your friends know, next time you see their babies, see if you can hear these sounds. Once they showed babies crying on the tv you could fully hear these sounds.

I believe this can be true but how useful is it really? There are only a handful of things babies at this age could want or need so it seems just as easy to me to use process of elimination! Have you seen the sign language study?? This one was amazing! Children 0-2 learning sign language for things like thirsty and hungry etc... It was neat to see a 10 month old doing sign language!

YEs I know the process of elimination is what I do and it does work. But I think for first time mothers this baby communication is a useful thing to know. As sometimes they don't think to do the process of elimination.
Yes I have heard of the baby sign language i think that is a great idea. I have never tried it though.
