Thank God For Quarters!

House cleaning time is the most nerve-racking time ever! Chasing after kids, trying to keep things in order that you just finished cleaning. I have a one year old trying to pull everything out of every cabinet and drawer he comes in contact with. I have a 5 year old that was to play Hot Wheels everywhere except for his room. And, then I have my seven year old daugther who thinks she is a little mother, bossing the other kids around and tossing her hair to and fro. Getting any help with the house work seems almost impossible! Then, I noticed my seven year old staring at a heap of quarters I had sitting on the table. She asked me if she could have just 2 or 3 or them. I told her "no". She started to get upset and I told her that I wouldn't give them to her but she could do some work to help me out to earn them. I started telling her different things that she could do to earn a quarter. And, what do you know? She vacuumed the living room and put all of her things away. She picked up after the baby and even offered to clean the toilet! In the end she ended up a very happy little girl and $6 in quarters richer. I ended up with help and a clean house in no time. Now, I make sure to keep quarters handy when I need a little extra hep around the house. What are some little tricks that you have tried to get a little help around the house?

I've done the same as you and obviously cash is always a great motivator.
I would also have a cleaning contest. I would assign each of our children a chore for each day of the week. And at the end of the week who ever completed all their chores (without me nagging at them) they would get taken to Dairy Queen. That was a wonderful motivation.
My husband and I would put our left over coins in a jar. So I would have a timer game. I would get a timer and see who could clean up the fastest and who ever won would get the money in the jar. They loved it

Great ideas! But, for my kids, the quarters work better than the dollar bills. I think it's because they like to play arcade and crane games. I have them save their quarters and when they have enough, I take them to spend the day at the arcades.
