My son is in the Army. He has completed one 15-month tour if Afghanistan and is scheduled to deploy to Iraq the end of this year. Not too long after he was in Afghan I read of the death of a soldier on an Army posting site. His wife, Mary, was so brave and her bravery touched my heart. I wrote this poem for her.
For Mary's Fallen Soldier
Fallen soldiers, one and all
Answered the beckon
Saluted the call
Fallen soldiers
Who never come home
Are forever on watch
Forever on Roam
Though missing in body
Their spirt stays true
A heavenly comfort
For me and for you
And death cannot stop them
Or deminish their might
We feel them still with us
By day and by night
Now mourne if you have to
Shed healing tears
Then remember their honor
Will outlast the years
Yes, gone but not forgotten
They gave out of love
Fallen soldiers
Forever protecting
Though now from above
