Over the last 8 months or so both of my old cats have developed a habit of leaving a room, and a comfortable spot on the sofa to go into another room and cry, ant its a real moaning sound. When you shout them or whistle them they stop and come back. Has anyone else gone through this one is 16 and the other 15.

I don't know what could be causing that my cats sometimes cry and it's normally either because they want to go out or because they want food. I wonder if cats can go senile or just get confused and meow for nothing as they get older? It could be that they are in pain for some reason but both cats getting it at the same time suggests that isn't the cause.

Hi scout50a, welcome to mylot and enjoy your stay here. I really don't know what it can be. Perhaps they feel some smell in this room or see something that you can't see. Cats have a good perception you know. I had a cat that cried when she wanted something we are eating with tiers in her eyes lol. I never more have seen nothing like this. But about your cats I really can't say what is it.
Welcome and good luck.
