Being allowed to be Christian

United States

It seems these days that it's ok to be anything but a straight Christian. Does anyone else notice this? It's ok for other religions to do whatever they want in public, so that we don't offend them, however they don't want us to proclaim our Christian beliefs. They don't want us to have our rights as Christian Americans, but they want us to bend at their will to make them happy. I feel that we are being persecuted as we have never been before in this country. What do you think, does any one agree or disagree? Any other thoughts?

I'm not aware of any other religion in numerous states trying to push through legislation to make their creation story mandatory teaching in schools. Which makes me wonder who's persecuting who, really.

Well, I've done my homework, and I think we'll have to agree to disagree. Intelligent design is the apologist's version of Creationism, and I think you'll find it's the latter several states are debating at present. My 'monkey story' I don't see as an alternative; I've no problem with any and all theories being taught, as long as one side isn't insisting the others be forbidden. And there's only one 'side' doing that. Darwin recanting his theory is a myth, incidentally, without the least shred of evidence; one of the more popular memes that tends to get spread around. If that were the case, it wouldn't stop the theory being objectively appraised by 150 years worth of independent research and not found to be lacking. Anyhow, I doubt I'm making any headway here, and I wouldn't want to be thought to be persecuting you, but consider this: Aren't you supposed to forgive those who sin against you? And isn't judgement something only one person can do?

I absolutely am able to forgive people. And I accept that we agree to disagree. The school are trying to add, not take away. They would just like to enable 'the other sides' to be taught as well. No one is trying to take the teaching of evolution out of schools, as least not in my state. I belive that animals were created, now I don't disagree with the evidence such as skeltal remains that have been found. I just beileve that each creature was a creature in itself, and that maybe these were rough copy's of a better human type creature. Maybe God just kept working till he got it right. If we have evolved, then why is there no significant proof of any evolution in our time? Surley humans have been on this earth long enough show at least some signs. For instance, we have the need to travel, lots of people fly, where are our wings? shouldn't we have them by now. Also, shouldn't we have gills by now as well? Humans and other mammals would never drown if they had gills, therefore I see a need for that as we can't breath under water, and many die because of it. If I saw any evidence of anything changing in the last few thousand years, I may be able to be convinced.

Well, I wasn't gonna reply again, but... Of course you can't see evolution happening over thousands of years, much like you can't see continents moving about visibly; both happen over periods of millions of years, for even minor changes. But, at the risk of contradicting myself a little there's one example of how humans have adapted which might satisfy you; in the last hundred years alone, the average height of men and women has increased by around 3 inches. People are much taller than they used to be. It's nothing to do with evolution, as no natural selection takes place in a modern society to start with ('Survival of the fittest' stops when a culture starts to care for the 'less fit'), but it's evidence of a genetic change over generations, and one backed up by actual statistical measurement. Expecting wings, though, that's merely hyperbole. Which leads me to suspect you wouldn't believe in evolution if God himself carved the text from On the Origin of Species into the side of the Himalayas in three foot high letters of fire, but there you go. That's why I said 'agree to disagree'. I tend to side with centuries of evidence and observation, and you don't, and that won't change.

I agree with you 100%! It just shows how close the end time is coming. As Christians we need to take a stand on our knees and make sure we are right with God. We need to live for him no matter what. No matter what they say or do, we need to try and show them Jesus just by living for him. In Revelations the bible says it will be a great falling away and also a great revival in the land, well look. Both are happening. As Christians we need to pray for one another and give each other strength to carry on. God is calling us to realize who he really is and take that authority and power Jesus gave us when he went to be with the father. So many Christians don't realize how Great and powerful God really is. The devil has got us so beat down. The devil has power! But we have have Authority and Power over him. Our Father is the King and we are his children. We need to start using that power and authority in prayer. God Bless You in All You do! Great topic!

OK, I'm going to try to avoid getting drawn into a long drawn out theological debate here. However, I will say that if you are a true Christian, then you will do what it takes to be a Christian and proud of it no matter what happens and even if standing up for your beliefs will cause you suffering. Faith is not just a declaration but actually a living experience and if the whole world does not "Allow" you to be a Christian, you find a way to be a Christian.

Yes, I agree. I feel you may have miss understood me. I was just adding to what you said, I thought. Don't mean to offend. We all have to stand up to our Faith.

I think you are correct in your thinking. Our government has bent over backwards trying to make other people welcome in our country. And, all the while, they have come against the very things our country was founded upon, the freedom for us to worship the way we want. Others are allowed to worship the way they want, but GOD and the Bible are no longer allowed in the schools. The Ten Commandments are not welcome at most places. Christians are forbid to put out the manger scenes at Christmas in most places. People no longer want the cross to be where people will see it.And I could go on and on. While our children are not allowed to pray even over their meals in school, others are allowed to pray because it is their custom. Do you see something wrong with that? So many things are happening in the world today that tells me that our time is near. Jesus will return one day, and it may be closer than we think.

If you live in the America's, you should have no problem with religion, be it Christian, Protestant or even if you don't belong to one. It is really the group where we are included that may limit the activities that we may do or be engaged in. But you are generally free to proclaim and spread the word related to your beliefs. Yes, there will be obstacles, there will be those that oppose your beliefs. It is up to you to weather these conditions and live a life your faith dictates. :)

I tend to agree with you. Our problem is that we are seperate from most religions until they come to this country the USA and then want rights. I don't blame them for wanting some rights as they have been persecuted in other countries. Ya know, I wish schools would teach kids about relgion and reglious differences and why we are different in what we believe. I think this would help tolerance. We need to know more about the world around us and their customs. THey need to know about ours. Why can't we just all get along and share and enjoy each other.

I totally agree with you on this. They first took the Bible out of our public schools and prayer. Then now they dont even say the pledge anymore because it has the word GOD in it. If you ask me alot of the problems that america is having now with children and such is because they are banning the bible out of public places and also Christians are being procicuted for what we believe.
