Do you check your voicemail?

I just realized I had 23 voice messages that I had not checked for over 2 weeks. O.K. this time I had an excuse. Andre was sick we were at the hospital we were worried... But I just remembered that I am not that good with listening to the messages. More often than not, even when everything is ok I tend to listen to my voice messages only once a week. I tend to figure if it's something really urgent they will call again. But the truth is that I should be checking them once I notice they're there. My bad, and I need to correct this - or else what's the point of having an answering machine? :) What about you ? Are checking your voice messages each day/ when you receive them or do you do it like me?

I only check mine when I realize I haven't checked it in awhile. We have caller I.D and I tend to just go off of that. I can't tell you how often I call someone back and they ask..."didn't you get my message?" HA! They should know better by now that I don't check them. At least I return the calls though, right? :-)

LOL yeah that sounds more like me. But once it backfired when I called someone back, she talked to me but forgot to tell me what was in the voice message LOL Still , that's basically how I do it as well.

I actually took off the voice mail feature in my cell. It's a pay as you go and although I can get a good rate for calls or text messages, each time someone called me and I didn't answer it would go to the voice mail. THey didn't have to even leave a message, it was 40 cents no matter what. So I took it off. I don't use my phone that much to need it. I do have answering in my land line but to be honest I"m debating if I should keep it or not:)

Hello Arkaf, 23? Wow! That's alot of messages. I am very diligent about checking messages, and returning phone calls. Though, I have not had the weight of the world on my shoulders lately, as you've had. I'm sure those 23 callers will understand that you've had pressing matters to attend to!

I was calling a few back today once I finally listened to them. Thankfully there was nothing really important or urgent, but it could have been. I confess that my mind was really far from the messages specially for the last two weeks and a half, but I was home a few times, I should have checked them. On the other hand since 2/3 of the messages were just the usual "junk calls" ... I had some people that wanted to give me a free trip - Yeah right! - them some charity wanted me to donate my old clothes, someone wanted to take away my junk - for a price of course. And how did they know I had junk ? LOL - and a few nice people wanted to offer me a better phone deal - how can they be sure I don't already have a better phone deal ? heheheh I think it's things like this that desensitize me from the real reason for having an answering machine:)

Hello Arkaf, Did you make your goal yesterday through today? Also, your reply brings up an interesting question: Do folks in Canada have the option to place their telephone number on a "Do Not Call" registry -- like we set up a few years ago here in the USA?

I really don't need an excuse to not check my voice mail because I have most people trained not to call me. I am not a phone person. Oh, yes, I love my cute little Helio Ocean smart phone but that is for the data plan. I would much rather text message with people than talk on the phone. I cannot multitask well when trying to keep up with a phone conversation. I can type and watch TV or type and read but I cannot type and talk on the phone at the same time, not even with a headset.

Now that sounds like the perfect plan !!! :) I don't think I am a phone person either although sometimes I do chat with some of my friends that I don't have a chance to see that often. I can multitask but still I am not much a phone person. HOwever I should either pay more attention to my voice mail or else take it off completely. I probably will end up doing it:)

I am really bad. I don't usually check my voicemails on my home phone or my cell phone, although I do always check caller ID to see who called me. Then I prioritize and decide who to call back and when, and who just gets to be ignored and sent to the 'recycle' pile lol. Sometimes I check voicemail when I feel like it, but usually there's some reason that prompts me, like a call I was expecting, or a call I WASN'T expecting, stuff like that. I mean I don't really need to check voicemail if I've seen my friend has tried to call me 3 times in ten minutes, it just means I better call her back asap before she calls me 3 more times.

Yesterday I was actually debating if I should keep paying for my voice mail - I got it trough the phone company - or just drop it since like you I rely more on checking the numbers that called . What's the point of paying for voice mail if I hardly use it? :) The only thing is that sometimes - if we're expecting an important call - it actually comes handy.

No, actually I cant because i don't know the password to my voice male so i just have this annoying mail picture on the top of my phone. It's pretty bad but im maybe going to go to my cellular server and find out the password.

LOL I remember that happening to me some time back. For some reason I forgot the password and couldn't get in. And yes I had to call to get it reset:)

My husband is the one who does that. Sometimes he even checks the caller ID first to see who it might be, then listens to the messages. If I think it is a bill or a sales person, then I am not really wanting to listen, anyway.

Yep, the same here. I think I stopped listening as regularly when we were having some calls about bills that I couldn't pay anyways. It was depressing and I preferred not to hear them. I do check the caller id and if I see a number that I think I need to call I do it.

I don't hae oice mail on my homephone, but I have it on my cellphone. I think I check it about once a week, bu I am going to be checking it more often since my phone is how people are going to RSVP on the initations that my husband and I sent out for our wedding reception next month.

Well that is a case where you will really have to check more often. I don't have voice mail on my cell because it's a pay as you go and it costs the same as a call if someone just rings long enough to go to the voice mail, even if they don't leave a message.

When there is a message on it I do. It's rare that it has 23 messages in it like yours. That means your busy and have forgotten to check the mail. So from now on when you come home check your messages, so it won't pile up like that. You have to remember to check your messages from time to time. Don't wait that long. But it happens to everyone now and then. We can't remember everything. Have a good one.

WEll my son was sick and in the hospital for about two weeks so I really didn't pay much attention to the messages. However as a rule I'm not the best at checking them messages. I do check once a week, but during the week I don't often do it. Hope you had a great day :)

I don't normally check them. I guess because tend to call the person right back after I notice I missed their phone call. What's the point of checking the voicemail if I'm already talking to the person and the obviously would have talked about whatever they left on the voicemail. On my cell phone they show the little envelope letting me know I have a voicemail waiting. I don't bother to check since, like I said I already talked to the person. And then one day I didn't know who's number who had called and they left a voicemail. When I checked it I had more voicemails than I believed I had.

I used to think that way, until one day just last month. I was coming home and the phone was ringing but I just couldn't get to it on time. SO I checked and noticed it was one of my instructors at school so I called her back. She told me about a few things regarding her classes and then hang up.SO I didn't check her message since I had just talked to her. The next day i get to school as usual. I sometimes check on her class when it starts but she's usually ok so I went to the other classes because i knew they needed some help. It was only at lunch time that i realized that she had a supply teacher there. Apparently she had told me about it in her message so she didn't think about repeating it when I called her. Thankfully this was a supply that has been there already and knew the classes so there was no trouble but I usually go earlier when we have a supply to see if she needs anything or has anything that she wants to do that needs help and I didn't because I didn't check my voicemail.

I always check my voice mail the moment I relize that I got one. I have to because not only do I get calls for me but also my boyfriend and I never know if they could be important or not.

I check my voicemail immediately. I get work that way. There's this company that gives me some extra work with extra pay each month and the guy just calls and leaves a message for me on my voicemail. Its that important. You never know what somebody could be calling you for. It might be to tell you your apartment burnt down or something.

Well in your case it is important to check often. I usually check it more when my husband applies for a job and we're waiting for answers. But otherwise I tend to slack off a bit.

I don't check my answering machine at home... Every so often, I'll listen to it & delete them but there's nothing much important in my home answering machine... Anybody who knows me calls me on my cell. phone... That being said, I check my cell. phone voice mails when I notice I have a message or if I can't get to it right away, I make a point to check it as soon as possible...

For some reason, I don't check voicemails regularly. I have been scolded by my boss once or twice about it lol. But I am getting the hang of it. I just did not have that when I was working back in the Philippines. :)

I was actually the opposite. At the beginning I was checking regularly, it is now that I don't. Strange but I really don't even know why.
