I have heard that many companies and employers are checking out the facebook profiles of recent college graduates as part of the interview and hiring process of new grads. This can make or break a job offer from being extending for some. I think this is very unfair and not right at all. I have even heard that some companies are trying to pay facebook to be able to have access to all member's profiles. This is a definite invasion of privacy if you ask me. I think you all would agree that who we are and how we act inside and outside of work can be completley different. Certain published pictures on facebook outside of the workplace should not affect the decisions of possible employers from extending an offer or not. Just because you know how to have fun outside of work does not mean you cannot be completely professional and responsible when it comes to your work. Wouldn't you agree?

Being a newbie in Facebook, one feature that I appreciated is that not anyone can just access the person's account automatically. For you to view them, they have to approve you as a friend first. Unlike in friendster, you have to set it up in your settings that your account can be viewable by friends only of friends up to 2nd degree. Not being new to these databases, I can say that you account can be hacked by a person if they know your email addy and password. But this would already be advanced (I guess) assuming the person is a techie freak!!! One common mistake that I find users make, includes me, is that when we access our accounts using a public computer (like in an internet cafe) we sometimes forgot to log off before leaving. This would definitely invite and tempt the next user of the computer to tinker your account! I think Facebook for now has nicely set up a secure feature, it is up to us to protect ourselves further, one final thing would be not divulging too much information or data about ourselves for the public to see. Just enough to make them reach out to you to know you better. Cheers!
