Would you ever purchase discounted jewerly?

I worked for a jeweler once and they went out of business. They had to sell their inventory at a reduced cost. They marked down rings from $1500.00 to $300.00 and people still wouldn't buy them. Is there a stigma about discounted jewerly? Does it have to be expensive to be valuable?

I've purchased necklaces on sale. I've only ever boughten two necklaces and a ring from a jewelry store. The rest of my jewelry is either a gift or...something I bought at Walmart or Zellers or Claire's.
The ring i purchased was a family ring for my mom's mothers day gift a few years ago...and it wasn't on sale. I would have purchased it even if it was on sale. (actually would have been very excited about it being on sale.)

I guess it depends on the shopper...for example I have no problem buying discounted anything....because I love the fact of how much I have saved in the long run...
Plus, anyone who is hung up on that idea of expense = value are just way too materialistic and they are gonna have some hard times coming their way soon.

I would buy the jewelry if I had the money. Could it be that the people who were looking did not have the money or did they not like the setting?

It was in a nice mall and the jewerly store was a chain, I just think people expect jewelry to be expensive, the guy who was selling couldn't understand why he couldn't get rid of it. I think there's a stigma attached to cheaper jewelry, people think its fake or they want to boast how much they paid for it.

I can't believe people wouldn't buy it! As long as it was a pretty piece of jewellry and not ugly I would buy it. That is a great deal - I can't believe people were passing that up! Were the rings really gawdy looking or something? I don't think there is a stigma about discounted jewellry though. I would have loved to have been at that sale!
- Sad that I wasn't there! (lol)

No, it was quality stuff. I would say the name of the jeweler but I don't want to, besides I signed an agreement. They had engagment rings, watches, diamond earings, everything you would find in a jewelry store. A lot of my co-workers went crazy and bought stuff.

I would purchase it no problem, I love my jewellery well, what little I have and I am not fussy about where it comes from. Or what the price of it is.

I buy jewelry based on how it looks and whether or not it's in my price range. I rarely buy jewelry, but I look for something that catches my eye. If I can afford it, I will buy it. I don't even think about what the price means. Most of the jewelry I buy is really cheap, anyway, but looks good. I always get compliments on my jewelery. If I can get a piece at a bargain, then more power to it. No one has to know how much I've paid for my stuff.

Hi there gitfiddleplayer, maybe that is just the jewelry that is not very attractive or not the taste of many people...LOL! I have tried buying discounted jewelry and I am happy about it, but, when I have enough budget, I prefer the other set rather than the discounted things, since I will be thinking maybe it has some damaged already!

Its an odd thing, some people think its cheap but it was quality jewelry. It was from a national chain.

of course i would. there is no way i would buy jewelry that is high priced. it really makes no difference to me. if its in my price range 300 and under. it does what its suppose to do. it makes me look good with whatever i wear. i can say bling bling. i think in today society, if the jewelry isn't high priced, its not worth buying.

I don't wear much more than my wedding set. But yes I would purchase it. I don't see why not. Its value for me at least in how I received it. Not in what it costs.

some of us cannot afford even three hundred dollars, its as
simple as that. we would love to buy discounted jewelery
but still three hundred is a lot of money in this day and
age with the cost of groceries and gas so high. There is no
stigma on discounted jewelery but some of us are just not
rich at all and so we cannot buy the jewelery at all.

i'll definitely buy discounted jewelry as long as i know that there isn't anything wrong with it. i don't wear that much jewelry but i'd like to buy a couple and resell it for a quick profit.

I love to find discounts, no matter what I'm looking for!
I have bought jewelry from Bidz at greatly reduced prices. The quality is there... the jewelry is never misrepresented. I do a lot of Christmas shopping for my female friends and relatives from Bidz and get them some extremely nice jewelry for very little cost.
But, to some people, they believe the quality is only there if the price tag is huge. My parents were like that... everything had to be brand-name, top of the line, most expensive or they wouldn't buy it. I just thought that was plain stupid! Why waste money when you can save it?
Sometimes human nature boggles my noggin!

Of course! As a matter of fact I have been in the jewelry business for 12 yrs. My business is closed now, but I have much leftover stock that I have been trying to get rid of on ebay.I will probably do it again. I stopped after Christmas because everyone stopped buying! It's low, medium and high end stuff that was selling for deeply discounted prices. I have a lot of silver and it has to find a new home because every now and then I have to take it all out and polish it.

In some cultures, gold and silver jewelry are considered to be valuable and are bought for their investment value and not really for their looks.
If you discount the jewelry to sell it, I would think that those people would think that it was of inferior quality, made with less gold or silver, and therefore ot worth the price of purchase... as most people believe that the jewelers always pad their prices...
Those who purchase jewelry for its looks rather than its value would however love your lowered prices.

Hey, I love discounted jewelry, thats the only time I could afford to buy anything worth the money..lol. I don't think it has to be expensive to be valuable, not real expensive anyway. The only expensive piece of jewelry I have are my wedding rings.

What kind of jewelry is that? Gold? Thats a big discount already, if I have money I would buy it.
Gold here in Saudi is now very expensive, and its very rare here for jewelry stores to give discounts.

No way!
If I was after jewellery and I had the money then I would buy discounted stuff! That would be a total bargain but I probably still wouldn't have $300/£150 to spend on Jewellery but if I did I would buy! x

Whoa! That's a big, big discount and I would buy it. I don't have any any problem about discounted jewelry. Although I would say that I only have a ring and I don't even use it, I would still buy that. It doesn't have to be expensive to be valuable.
