Does your company allow you to work from home? Have you ever worked from home?

Well, people work too hard here. We are not "allowed" to work from home during official hours. But we are definitely "encouraged" to work from home after office hours. I don't think it's a good thing here but people tend to get used to it and put up with it, it's a culture here.

You're right about that. If you work after hours, it is eventually expected and you put in 10-12 hour days. Then, if you stop, you'll get chewed out.

I've been working from home for about 4 years now. At first it wasn't easy, as it does take a bit of getting used to and a lot of self-discipline. I worked for a couple of different companies before settling in as a VA and taking on clients. I now work as the Executive Assistant/Project manager for a pharmaceutical market research company and I have another client that I process data for insurance claims. It's great, particularly since I have 4 children. I save so much money in daycare, not to mention the cost of gas now. Where I live nearly every good company that pays is quite a commute away.

I work for the city library, so it's impossible for me to work at home as I need access to all the material the building has. Also, I would have to conduct business on the phone and the like, too. It just wouldn't work. But, when I was doing data entry, working at home a day or two a week would have been great. I would just pick up a ton of work the night before and then do it at home the next day. I know someone who works in accounting and I also think she could work at home at least one day a week. That might be a good thing if only her neighbors were quiet.

I teach for a living so I need to drive in on my work days but I know there will be a time when people in my position will be usinf more and more technology to cover more students in more places. We are already using distance learning to share information from one building/district/state to another. It is just a matter of time when one teacher will be coving hundreds of children. I would enjoy that. Gas will probably be $100/gal by then...or by next summer, whatever comes first!

Not yet, I hope someday it does offer that flexible benefit (sort of) or I get to join another company who does it like the one you mentioned - United Health Care.

I have been working from home on and off since 2005. The pay is a lot less than you get with a brick and mortar job but when you look at not having to buy gas, extra cloths and food and general wear and tear it pays off.
Unless you are with a company that is willing to pay you a good salary you will not make enough to really live off of for a few years cause you have to establish yourself and keep you skills really sharp cause you are competing basically with the entire world, as least those who are looking at the same job you are, possibly thousands of people. Many people I know who work from home work several different jobs to make the money come in. I just started an online transcription job and I'm still looking for more, hope I get something else soon cause there are more and more people looking everyday.
Some companies pay salaries ($9 - $15 an hour) and have you as an employee, but most of them have you as an independent contractor (varying pay some great some not so great) and you are responsible for your own taxes and other goodies on your own.

I am currently looking for work from home postings.
I have no experience working from home but I am open to one. However, I would like to do it as an additional income and would like to keep my job now in the BPO industry.

They used to and I worked many times from my living room. There's nothing in my job that I can't do at home.
However, the owner and my supervisor are micro managers. They changed that a couple of months ago and now nobody is allowed to work from home.
With the price of gas, that really sucks.
