Of Candidates and Computers

I saw a new story last week about John McCain being basically computer illiterate. He said his wife does his computering for him. How important is it for a political figure to be computer literate in this day and age? Do you think he can rely on others to do his computering for him or should he be doing his own computering?

I dont think it would be a big deal. He has enough assistance that do everything else for him. They can just print it out. Email is easy to learn.

I think he could get along fine without using the computer himself, but it would probably be good for him to take a basic computer course just so he knows how to find something in case he has to do it himself sometime.

How can anyone who can't operate a computer look forward and plot the future? I didn't know that any of the candidates were actually computer illiterate. I think it's a definite negative for McCain. It seems the same as a president in an earlier age not being able to read or write. Imagine an illiterate Abe Lincoln!

I don't think it's that important as he can always delegate the computer responsibilies to someone else, but he should probably take a crash course anyway because computers are going to be all around him and he should be in the know.

I think it's important for all politicians to have an online presence and to interact with people via a website and email. I don't think most politicians have the time to do it personally. I think they all have people who keep their website up to date and to respond to emails, so a politician does not actually need to have any computer skills.

I agree. They have so much else to do I think it would actually be BETTER for them to delegate the computer responsibilities someone else.
