This morning I drove for the first time since surgery. And it felt good. I havent driven a car since May and I hated depending on people .LOL I had alittle bit of a problem turning my head because the surgery was in my neck. But I did okay. Im so happy I can just run out jump in the car and Im free.LOL So to make this a discussion have you not been able to drive a car for awhile? And how long did you have to wait?

I don't know how to drive, and even if I did I could never afford a car, I couldn't rely on drivers, because they are so unreliable, so I just take the bus or walk where I have to go, or don't go at all.

I went for a week without driving a car being I had my gall bladder taken out and couldn't drive for that period. When I do end up having a hysterectomy done, it will be 4wks. that I won't be allowed to drive.

If I didn't have to work, I would have no need to drive really. I'm close enough to town to where I could ride my bike if need be or even walk. I bet it was really fun for you being you couldn't drive for a while.

Oh yes, several times but hopefully the last time IS my last time. I've had several surgeries and couldn't drive for 3 to 6 weeks which I hated with such a passion!! I couldn't go anywhere unless somone took me and at times I thought I'd go stir crazy!! Glad you're on the mend Terry!

Mornin' Terry,
Glad to hear you're up and about in your car. That's a good sign that you're healing nicely. Just be really careful you don't have to turn your head too quickly to look out for something. I've only had to not drive for a few days when my car was in for repairs...that was enough for me, haha. It was horrible counting on someone else to take me to work and pick me up. I feel for you hon. Happy to hear your getting much better...take care and keep looking straight ahead, lol! xxxooo

That's wonderful. I bet it does feel really good to get out there when you feel like it and just go. Glad you're feeling better.
I had big, female surgery about 25 years ago and then developed pneumonia right after the surgery. I wasn't able to drive for awhile but it sure wasn't the length of time you've been unable to drive. I am thinking it was about 3 weeks before I had the strength to drive.

Hi Terry, glad to hear your back behind the wheel. I know how good it feels when you don't have to depend on someone to take you places. Enjoy your day.

Well done on driving for the first time since your surgery Terry!
I know exactly how you feel. I had surgery on my wrists a while ago and also couldn't drive for 6 weeks after. The first time I did drive, I was ecstatic, because I had that freedom back in my hands - no more depending on other people to run you around everywhere! I was independent again and it felt so good!

When I broke my right foot, and eventually had surgery on it, I couldn't drive. I was in a cast for 6 months. I hated having to depend on others to take me anywhere I needed/wanted to go. I am the type that when I want to go somewhere, I just jump in the car and go, so not being able to for 6 months was terrible.

There have been lots of times in my life when I went without driving for long periods.
And its always a welcome thing when you start to drive again. Its like going back to a better world.
Transport is so important in our lives we tend to forget this when we are caught up in the daily rush to get things done.
I have never regretted being able to drive again.
Its such a pleasure.

I had to be driven for about 6weeks a couple of years back when I broke my wrist and i hated it! I had minor surgery at the end of last week so haven't driven since Thursday because of the position of the seat belt on the drivers side. I am usually driving everyone else so find it very frustrating. I've said that, if I ever have to give up driving permanently I shall take up drinking!!

Well, you know that I had surgery on my foot recently. I was not supposed to drive for six weeks. I had three teenagers available to do my driving. They kinda enjoyed being my driver. They kept asking where I needed to go each day. They argued over whose turn it was to drive me around. I think it was a good learning lesson for all of us.

Hi, Terry. Glad you got your freedom back finally. I can imagine that I would feel just the same. I have never been unable to drive for any real length of time. The longest for me was when I sprang my ankle on my clutch leg. Both of our cars were stick shifts and I just did not have the strength fully engage the clutch. I was only unable to drive for about a week.

I had a colonoscopy and was not able to drive for one day. Even that seemed like punishment. i would hate to have my right to drive taken away for longer. My husband had colon surgery and could not drive for about a week.

I myself do not drive and now I could not even if I wanted
to learn as I had shoulder joint surgery two years ago due to a fractured shoulder and now have only about ten percent of the
usage back in my left arm. so no driving, but to someone who has always driven, I can see what a hardship it would be not to be able physically to drive. I am glad for you that you can now drive again.

After I had my hip replacement I had to wait 2 months. It got kind of old having people (wife) take me places, so I just hung around the house. Glad you can get out and feel the breeze in your hair. Also glad you're feeling better.
