No, if that is your rent in Iowa that is cheap. You must not be in Iowa City. When I lived in Iowa a few years ago, we paid $600 for a 2 bedroom in Cedar Rapids, 1 bath and that was the going rate. Funny thing, I checked the same complex recently, they have only gone up $50/mnth.
We live right outside of New Orleans and currently pay $1130 for a 2 bdrm 2 ba. Wages here don't support the amount of rent we pay every month.

Ive seen a lot higher than 450. My grandfather's in idianapolis is 920, and my father's was 1100 when he was in new york city (and that was a good deal).

Myself and members of my family live together in a two bed room independent house having proximity to markets, banks, offices, electricity dept, water supply dept. and I pay close to $200 per month. Last year, the same place was available for less than $75. The rental values of residential units have doubled over a period of 1 year because lots and lots of people are coming to BANGALORE city - one of the world fast growing cities.

I live in a 2 bed room independent house in a posh locality of Bangalore, India. The monthly rent is Rs.10,000 (Approximately $500). Of late, due to influx of experts in Information Technology (Bangalore is also known as Silicon City of Asia), the rent rates have gone up alomost by 100%
