Using FREE website promotion

There are tons of free traffic exchanges, link exchanges, and directory linking sites out there. Most claim to provide tons of traffic. I read that in order to benefit from these one has to be consistent and participate every day. I also read that much of the traffic is useless. Have you ever participated in these types of website promotion? If so, which type was most beneficial, and for how did you or have you been using that service?

They do usually provide decent amounts of traffic. For PTP I use smileytraffic - great site, but I just dont like to use it for manual surf. Manual surf I use easyhits4u and freetrafficlotto - just coz easyhits4u is a good, well known site that also pays. And freetrafficlotto has the added "lotto" bonus.

well I have not used myself but I do not consider themselves to be genuine.

I just started about a month ago. Out of the 6 sites I joined, 3 have proven to drive some positive traffic to my sites.
