Do you feel frazzled after throwing a party for your child at home?

I gave in, after promising myself that
I wouldn't do it again after last years
efforts, I did the big party at home for
my son and he loved it so it was all worth it
.... but.... I am exhausted! It doesn't help
that I have a mega cold/flu either!
It was just family but we had the party pies
and sausage rolls and frankfurts with sauce and
chips and lollies and biscuits and lamington
fingers and chocolate freddo frogs - pretty much
you name it!
Then we had a lamb roast with baked vegies and
gravy cooked from scratch for dinner - yum!
Finally a big moist chocolate mud cake with
ganache icing made proudly by me!
I made it through the day alive!
I really pushed myself to my very limits today.
So does any other parent out there strive for
their best on their children's birthday to make it 'perfect' for them?
Who thinks that I am insane for having it at home
without catering, without anyone bringing anything
along and all by myself?
Who chooses a McDonalds party over a home birthday
bash for their kids?
Are birthdays a big thing in your family?
Who is always spent after a days birthday fun?
ME!

I glad your son had a great day! It is alot of work but the little tike's sure remember it for life. It makes me exhausted to when I have a get together like that. Unfortunately I do it at the park or something and make it pass a dish because I do not cook well. I like to grill out to. The kids can play then.

Yes.. the park is a great idea. Might do
that for my daughters birthday in a week then
they can all run around and play while I set
things up and I might see if someone can help
me a bit.
I am glad he had a fun day too! It was his
tenth birthday so he should remember this one
for a long time. That is what makes it all
worth it, when they make eye contact with you
and say 'thanks mum' awww

hi.
that's great! your son will truly be thankful for the party that he got. i have adaughter and she will be celebratign her 2nd brithday thsi septemeber. i've already picked out a restaurant where we will celebrate it. i've already chosen a theme as well and i have gotten in touch with suppliers who will provide the party favors and birthday cake. planning a child's birthday party is fun for me, never exhausting. by mid-july, i'll be preparing the list of invited guests and by august i'll be finalizing details of the party.
i know my daughter and our guests will have lots of fun and though she maybe too young to remember, i'll be doing everything to make this a memorable 2nd birthday for her.

My youngest childs second birthday is in
a week or so, I think I will do it your way
- get someone else to cook and provide the
cake AND clean up afterwards! See I cooked
all the food from scratch and made the cake
and decorated it myself - well I had four
children under 10 helping me!
I think I must be insane - I still have all
the washing up to do!
Where is a cleaning fairy when you need one!

I don't like throwing parties at home period. The preparation takes so much time and effort. Then at the end of the day there's a lot more cleaning up to do. I hate it. So yea, McDonald's is the way to go. Sometimes it's also go to do a double celebration with another person to save on the cost as well as the effort.

I dont think that you are insane at all i think it was a nice idea. I have been to 4 parties at fast food places in the last week and they can get pretty boring,at least when you are at home you can do your own thing with your family and friends. You can choose what you want to eat which is what i find the best thing..eat as many chips and junk food as you possibly can. I have that many parties in my family that if we decided to have them at mcdonalds or somewhere we wouldnt have any money left. I love having patrys with the family and friends..

I've done many parties for my son's birthdays over the years. Several times I even hired a clown to deliver balloons and jelly beans and to do face painting. But one year I was frazzled and decided ahead of time I didn't want the mess or nerves so we had the party at Hardees. The kids loved it. The staff served, and entertained, and they even cleaned up afterwards. All I had to do was pay the bill. Much much easier way to go if you are short on time.

I am not a mother yet but I always hear from my friends and colleagues who's a mom already, and of course from my own mom that once you became a parents, you'll do everything just for them. So your son must be so proud of you..Keep it up!!!!

That's awesome! I'm sure your son
and family really appreciated all
the efforts.
I don't like doing the McD's party either.
Just too impersonal. I don't often get
to bake cakes, cause my oven is on
the fritz. But it's nice to celebrate
at home. I do my best!

I usually do parties at home for my children it is very stressful trying to get everything together and doing all the food. The last big party we had was for my daughter's ninth. We hired a bouncy castle and put it up in the back garden all the kids had a great time. I also done some traditional games like pass the parcel and musical chairs and bumps. She had 15 children round and it went really well. But it wasn't so bad as in the evening we had a small adult party as it was my partners birthday that day. It was a great way to wind down after the stress of the childrens party.

I remember the first party I ever gave for my first daughter - and I was terrified! Some mums seem to be able to cope with parties really well and take it in their stride - but I felt as if I was on trial - hahaa! I enjoyed making up the party bags though - and we had the traditional party food you mention, too. It's sad to see these days kids are wanting expensive bashes in recording studios and other places, all trying to outdo eachother. Also, there seem to be so many children with allergies, food intolerances or other problems, a party at home would be fraught with danger these days. I'm glad my children are all grown up now!
