I have talked to people who accuse Christians of being weak and needing the "crutch" of religion to get them through life. I am a Christian myself and I think it takes a lot more strength of character to stand up for my beliefs in the world than it would to go with the flow and deny the truth. It takes real courage to be a Christian in my opinion. We are not wimpy people who need a crutch to get by in life. What's your opinion?

I became a christian not because I am weak and need something to hold onto , I became a christian because I saw my depravity, I was powerfully convicted of my sinfulness that led me to the cross of JeusChrist.

It takes a lot of courage to admit you have been wrong about your life and turn it over to the Lord, against all the attitudes that the world has given you up to this point. I'm glad you were able to overcome and accept the Lord's salvation. More power to ya.

The way things are happening now, it takes courage to be a Christian. Most of the media is against you. You are accused of being a bigot and intolerant because you believe there is only one way to be saved. You believe in marriage being only between man and woman, and for that stand, you get the world against you accusing you of horrible things. Yes being a Christian is not for sissies.

Jesus said they said horrible things about him and cast out his name as evil. The world of his day even called him Beelzebub, the devil, because they didn't like what he said, and he was perfect. He said how much more will we have to endure the name calling and disrespect, since of course we are imperfect humans who follow the Lord, it will probably be much more for us. It takes a lot of fortitude to stand strong in this world.

I agree with kathy drum.....What other people think or say has little to do with our walk. Standing up for what we believe in takes a lot of strength, character and integrity.

It surely does. I'm so glad the Lord said he will be here to to help us, never leave us or forsake us, so we don't have to stand alone.

Absolutely true. To be a true Christian means to be involved, to engage in making this world a better place. This is no task for cowards. Being Christ's disciple means always to swim against the stream, to be spiritual when your surroundings are wordly, to love where there is hate. It means to keep oneself free from the alluring tentations that selfishness and superficiality put in our way. To be Christian means to be a fighter. Not with arms, but with the Word. Not with force, but with love. It means to aim at the highest goal a man can put to himself: to follow the model of Jesus Christ, to "walk as he walked". That needs a lot of courage, the courage of selfdenial and sacrifice.

I appreciate your detailed response. Someone said it is a great mystery how the Lord uses imperfect man to bring about his perfect will. When we make ourselves available and stand strong he can bring about his perfect will using us. But it takes a lot of courage to stand strong.
