Ahahaha... I just have to ask. Internet lingo has come a long way since the dawn of the internet. LOL is one of those which are used most often. It's definitely ok to shorten "laughing out load" and the word LOL itself has become an expression to most.
But seriously, in the place where you live in, does it mean something else? There are people who do not know what this means and may react if it has a meaning. Here in the Philippines, LOL for those who hear it the first time usually tend to refer it as swearing. It's usually a short for "ulol" (sorry for the word my Filipino friends. ) which means that he/she is crazy in a bad way (dunno the exact translation).
In any case, I experience this just once. I really had to explain. Cheers! LOL!

Yeah I agree internet lingo has come along way since the dawn of the internet, and I remember back when I did not know what lol meant, and then someone told me it means laugh out loud, which is pretty cool, and I have heard it as having other meanings too, such as lots of luck, lots of love, lots of laughs, and a maybe a few others.

hahaha this is really funny..you know the sun cellular commercial? the dad reacted when his daughter texted him lol it is really funny how words became short due to the limited capacity or just laziness of people to type long words so they came up with this short cuts..quite amazing right?

Thank you!!! That's what I was looking for! I knew I remember seeing it on tv. Yeah, that was hilarious! Yeah, with lots of shortcuts you could practically say an entire story in one text message.

I have known several people who believed it to mean "lots of love" and used it that way in several texts and emails before someone finally told them their mistake. That phrase, lots of love, is one that would pretty much be used with someone close to you, so at least they probably where not too embarrassed.

Here is one definition:lal or lawl: can refer to either a pseudo-pronunciation of LOL, or the German translation (although most German speakers use LOL). Saying "lawl" is sometimes meant in mockery of those who use the term LOL, and not meant as serious usage. Forme Iprefer Lots of Love. So much nicer.
