Has recession in US.. hit the techies from other countries..like countries from India.. How would feel when your Boss calls up.. one fine morning and informs you that " You are fired from the job.. Without no reasons.." This is the real subject matter of the article that i read across.. http://www.ndtv.com/convergence/ndtv/showcolumns.aspx?id=COLEN20080054105 While a majority of the techies are from India, and some from other countries also.. It is sad to hear that they find their way back to their country.. The majority of those who are laid of were earning around 80K to 100K.. and the companies find it as an effective cost control measure to replace these high paid employees with mid level executives.. How would you react when your Boss.. informs you that you are fired from job..without any notice..

Wow, that sucks. If I was dependent on a job I would probably go through stages of depression, and have to live very tightly as far as money goes. I would really be struggling...

hey hi........saivenkaat802003 In most cases, if you are fired or laid off for than 13 weeks your employer must tell u ahead of time. This called notice. Your employer must give you notice in writing. And in most jobs if you are fired without proper notice, your employer must pay your normal wages for the weeks you should have beem given notice. This called "Termination pay". If you are laif off permanently, the rules apply. But in some situations you can be fired or laid off without notice. For example if you have not worked continuously for atleast 3 months, or if your own misconduct, you do not have to be given any notice. However what your employer says is miscoduct might not be misconduct under the law. Even if your employer had a rason to fire you because of somthing u did this does not neccessarily mean it is misconduct. If you think your employer was wrong to fire you without notice, get legal advice.... anjali

In the Philippine Law, that would be aground for a law suit. It is stated that there are specific reasons to fire a person from work. It should be proven verbally and with evidences of why the person was fired. Sadly though, there are cases where some companies here get away with it anyway and leaves the employee heartbroken. I would always wonder how the employers would feel if that happened to them.

Hi saivenkaat, I am very sorry to hear of what's happening, unfortunately it does happen everywhere. For big companies the only thing that matters is the bottom line, and they will save money wherever they can. This is of course, completely normal, but its very tough on the employees. Blessings.

I suppose this is what life is all about, there are no guarantees. This has always been the case ever since time immemorial and who's to say what the correct response is? What if Julius Caesar or Alexander the Great were to say to his soldiers, we won't be invading anymore countries and you're fired? That would suck to soldiers used to killing men and raping women, wouldn't it? Where do you suppose these people go? A lot of American soldiers who come home from the wars cannot find decent jobs and become homeless. What is going on with life, anyway?

While I totally disagree on the manner in which these retrenchments take place and feel that this can be an extremely cold way to go about this , I have another point of view here. A lot of techies who go to the US would definitely know about the way in which these corporates do business as this is the way this has been going on for a few years now. Further one of the primary reasons they accept these offers is the income which would be substantially higher that what they would earn in thier respective countries. Therefore as the saying goes higher the reward , higher the risk. Maybe if the techies understand this policy a little better they may handle the situation of being 'pink slipped' a little better. This does not in any way let the decision makers and the companies off the hook for thier insensitive approach to this issue.

well i guess thats unfair to the one concern..and im not in favor of that everyone has the right to a formal notice and reasons why they are being laid off...i guess their contract had lapsed and good only for 5 or 6 months at that..of course i can understand that...not being renewed..

Hi saivenkaat802003! That will be very devastating. I will be furious, sad, depressed and devastated. But what can I do? Will I fight for my salary and position when the company is just trying to save its survival in the corporate world and at the same time save other employees with low salaries? But surely, I would be very devastated because I am being fired with no notice beforehand. That is no way to treat an employee who have given so much for the company's progress. I deserve some respect! Take care and God bless!

I'd say my former employer suffers from a$$hole-itis and can go screw himself. At first I'd be like wtf? What happened? Then, I'd obviously be pi$$ed.

I know what you mean, wait until you have saved enough money to take your family to Hawaii, you have spent all your money enjoying your one great vacation, then you get home ready to make enough money to pay your bills and your boss fires you when you walk in the door. Then the worst part is when you find out he knew he was going to lay you off before you left. If he would have told me sooner I could have saved a lot of money and been able to handle it better. Well I'm not in India and I"m not a techie. But I was fired last month without notice. Yup, called into his office at 4pm (quitting time is 5pm) and told not to come back the next day. I was rather surprised, but since I wasn't fond of the job anyway I didn't push it.

Hello saivenkaat802003, In the U.K. the emplyers have to gave verbal warnings and three lettter, before fireing anyone, otherwise we have unions or some don't but we can sue the company other than that we have tribunal and take them to court for unfair dismisals. The firm cannot fire anyone without reaseable cause.. to fire them. Tamarafireheart.

I think People in It field are going through a tough situation. But they are replacing them with mid level excecutives to pay them less. I think people who are laid off can ask for a position with lesser salary. THat is better than having no job at all.

Hi saivenkaat802003, It is very sad. It is very bad on the part of the company to fire a person even without a notice. The person should fight for his right. The International Labour Law is applicable to any country. They (techies) should fight for compensation and boycott the company in future. Good Luck.

I would be very, very disappointed after all out of respect I should be told why I am been let go I was fired from my job about12 years ago I just sold a leather chair and was just about to go home when I was called in the office and was told my services was no longer required, that was very hard to take, and I was not told why. maybe the only good thing is that these guys and ladies are very good at what they do hopefully they find a job soon if not here when they go back to their country They could even start a small business.

I really think that why lots of people are being fired is because of high company expenses and cheaper labor that is readily available. It's really sad that some people who have actually dedicated their lives at a certain company would get fired for reasons that are unclear. I only hope that employers would really consider if they are laying off employers.

That was very unfair! Even if a person is not worthy to the said job or unable to perform his duties, still that is not the proper way to fired or terminate an employees! Decency men!!! Decency!!!
