I have a 6 week old son, and his eating and sleeping seem very erratic. Sometimes he'll want to eat every 4 hours...somteimes every 2 1/2 hours. At times he wants 4 oz, sometimes 6 oz. He will go back to sleep while eating..or stay awake for 2 hours. Is this normal? Can I do anything to help him be more regular? Thanks oodles!

He is a bit young for a schedule. It is best to let him eat and sleep when he wants. What you can do is keep track of when he eats and sleeps for a couple of weeks and you may notice a pattern start to emerge. That way you can be more prepared and know when he is likely to be hungry or sleepy. By about 4 or 5 months many babies are on some kind of schedule, but not all. So if your son just wants to do his own thing, that's fine too. Although knowing when he will be hungry and tired can help, especially when you have errands to do or appointments to keep.
Keeping track of when he eats, how much and when he sleeps, you may notice, for example, that he eats every 2 hours in the morning, but every 4 hours in the evening. You may notice that he sleeps longer after he as eaten more. Just remember that once he is on a schedule, there will be times when he doesn't stick to it, such as when he is having a growth spurt or when he begins teething.

Books can be helpful as long as you realize that they are guidelines, not gospel. They can help give you an idea of what he may be doing at any age, but you have to remember that all babies are different, and their eating and sleeping habits vary widely. Your best bet is to take your cues from your baby- he knows what he needs, and he will guide you.

Congrats on your little bundle of joy! Do not worry about a regular schedule at such a young age. He will slowly develop his own schedule. You can try and develop a routine for him by having a certain time for bath time and story time. That is what I did is my little boy and now he is eight months old and has a perfect schedule that he follows very day.
Your son's sleeping and eating habits are completely normal. Sounds like you are doing a great job!

This is normal! (And congratulations!)
It'll level out soon. Try to get him onto a schedule, OK? It helps. In a few weeks or months, he'll be sleeping like a champ!
Like, evry 3 hours feed and change him, then nap time!
