I think it is great to replace a meal with just a salad! Just make sure that the lettuce and other ingredients are organic and don't drown with dressing! The extra calories can just kill it! It would also be best to have it to replace dinner. If one would think about calories: the time when the body burns calories up is during the day and less at night. Load up with a big breakfast in the morning, it has all day to burn off. The last meal of the day, and the one with the least amount of time to burn is dinner.

Well I occasionally might have a salad as a meal. I don't normally have a simple plain salad I kind of make it my own. Well sometimes I make fajita salad. In that I add peppers to get the spice. Chicken, crumbled up tortilla chips, beans, green leaved salad, corn, and then you can add a dressing of your choice. I prefer ranch. Also mix it all together so that the ranch is all over. Don't just pour it on top. There's many different salad's you can make.

I usually have salad as a whole meal when my husband is not in town.
Onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, cooked chicken, green chillies, moong sprouts, boiled potato cubes, salt, pepper and lime....is one of my favourite salads.
Sometimes I have a raita with grated carrots, cucumbers, onions and green chillies. The dahi shouldn't be too sour and I just love it.

Hi Mayka,
Eating salad is not a very viable option in India. It has recently caught up with us or maybe people in the glamour industry always had salads as meals to maintain an ideal weight. But for middle-class Indians, salad is not a viable option as a meal. The main cause of this is the unavailability of various food which you can eat as salad or even if these are available now at supermarkets, its quite expensive and way beyond our regular means. Not many of us can afford to eat expensive cheese or bacon or zucchini or imported veggies and fruits every day. The locally available and affordable options for us are only tomatoes, cucumbers and lettuces…even the salad dressings with olive oil base are quite expensive. So salad as a meal is not an option for me. But I eat fruit salad which is a mixture of local and seasonal fruits available readily with my corner fruitseller.

During my trip to Goa last year for seven days I would have one meal only of salads and fruits and one heavy meal. That also gave me the chance of having all the locally available vegetables and fruits. If I go for a party here then I try to have one meal of fruits and salads so that I dont end up eating too heavy a meal both times.

Well I do not have salads as the only course in the whole meal but it has to be there in every meals. I just love it, except the creamy, mayonnaise ones which gets very heavy.
I like fruit salad as well and sometimes take it as dessert.
Thanks.

Sometimes my wife and I will have salad only for lunch. We put in lettuce, tomato, red onion, cucumber and sometimes tuna or cheese as well. There is also a dark green leafy vegetable which is a little like the taste of cress that we put in it as well but I am not sure what the English name is for it? It is a healthy and light way to fill up sometimes but it does get boring if you eat it every day. Sometimes my wife makes a chicken and pasta salad too and this is pretty tasty!

I do not know if I could eat salad as a meal every day but there has been a few occasions where me and my fiance have shared a salad for a meal because we were not really hungry and salad is good for us,I like salad with lettuce and cucumbers but that is about it,and it always has to have a ton of ranch dressing or it is not any good, and my fiance also likes ranch dressing on her salad.

Hi Hi
Sometimes we all will just have a salad for dinner . We do this maybe 3 times a month and a few times a week we have salad as a side . When the salad is a meal there is a bit more to it. Like a chicken salad will have galric bread, cheese, chicken , french fries and veggies . Same with the steak Salad . Then sometimes we have a sweet salad with nuts and feta cheese .

I could eat caesar salads for breakfast lunch and dinner. Romaine lettuce, caesar dressing, croutons, and sometimes grated cheese. Mmm. Caesar dressing is made from anchovies. I have never tried anchovies but I bet I'd love them. :)

well i have not tried having a salad as a whole meal. but a salad to start a meal is good for me. i don't take too much greens so the salad helps in that way. lettuce is a must for my salad, though anything else is optional. i like sour dressing for my salads. either vinegarette or japanese sesame dressing is a great way to have my salads. some days i like to have eggs in my salad too.

There are a few of salads I will have a meal on occassion. Chicken Caesar salad, Taco salad, Shrimp salad( this is one of my favorites.), and this one salad I cannot remember the name of at this restaurant which has chicken, lettuce(various types) mandarin oranges , walnuts(candied it think) with a raspberry type of balsamic vinegar dressing. I always like to try new salads, I think they are so refreshing. The shrimp salad mentioned above is very simple to make, very few calories and delicious. It is just cooked shrimp, iceberg lettuce, tomatoes(chopped), lemon juice, salt and pepper. Mix the shrimp, lettuce and tomatoes, add the lemon juice to taste and spice up with salt and pepper and mix. Let sit for a while so the lemon gives it flavor and ready to eat.
