I am getting into going on mini vacations. I recently went to Minneapolis, (I flew there), and now I want to start doing this more often. Between my plane ticket, my hotel, and my shopping, I spent about $1000. Does anyone know of a good place to go on a mini vacation, for somewhere around the same cost?

My Mom and I were just talking about this the other day and she and my Granma were talking about going to one of those Amish communities where you can shop and they even have classes where you can learn to can, churn butter, make candles, quilt, all kinds of things. You get to keep what you make and you learn a new skill. I'd love to do it and I might go with them when they go. I think it'd be alot of fun.

I take mini vacations with my sisters. We have gone to Ocean City, Maryland for a 4 day weekend. Between everything, I didn't even spend $500!
We also went to NYCity one weekend. It also wasn't more than $500. We always go somewhere we can drive to so we don't have to buy a plane ticket.
In September we are going to the rock and roll hall of fame. It should be another very inexpensive weekend.
