Affiliate programs

I have heard about affiliate programs and twice or so I signed in with one program called Affiliate Junktion some thing like that. They also asked me money after entering carefully my details. The moment I saw to enter the credit card details and select payment method, I got out of the site. I don't know much about this program and I decided not to give my money before I earn atleast 1 dollar. What you say? But I am interested to know about this affiliate programs. Can you help?
