I am planning a trip to sydney for 5 days this coming September and i have been reading about the place for quite sometime now. My problem is i really want to choose the perfect location for me to stay in sydney, I prefer it to be in the center of things, easily accessible to public transport especially subways and of course accessible to shopping. Right now im leaning towards Circular Area because of its proximity to the Opera House but I read somewhere that Darling harbour is more exciting than Sydney Harbour area, so now im confuse. Any advice?

Sydney is my favorite city in the world. The best place that I can think of staying would be near to Circular Key. Yes, it is close to the amazing looking opera house. The view towards the interesting harbor bridge is fantastic. The Rocks is a historical area that might be nice to stay in. Darling Harbor would be an exciting location. Whether you stay near Circular Key or near Darling Harbor the views at night over the water are superb. One year I was at Darling Harbor for the firweorks display on 5th November and it was magical. That are has a lovely atmosphere. Public transport in Sydney is excellent. I hope that you will have a great time there.

Thanks for the wonderful response. Now I'm leaning more and more to staying at Circular Quay. I think it would save me money since its near historical places so everything would be walking distance. Did you tour outside Sydney like Blue Mountains? If so would you recommend going there? Also did you join a tour going there or took the public transport?

I took public transport in the Sydney area. I went up to the Blue Mountains for Easter the year that I was there. Accommodation was quite booked up but I managed to find somewhere to stay. Most of all I liked Avalon and Palm Beach near the stunning looking national park. You can take a train to the beautiful Blue Mountains and a bus from the center or Manly up to the Northern Beaches.
