How do you help your cat deal with fireworks noise on July 4th???

I'm already dreading July 4th, as the loud ka-booms from the fireworks startle and scare my cats. I want to minimize their being so frightened. Leaving them alone to deal with the loud noise seems hardly fair. So I was just wondering if you ease your cat's stress on July 4th. For example, do you let your cat run under the bed or in the closet? (My cats would probably do this, though they'll still be startled, no matter where they hide.)

I always tell my cats "big noise" whenever I grind my coffee beans or flush the toilet, so I guess I'll explain that there will be a lot of "big noise" tonight and throughout the weekend. I know one will be scared to pieces, but the others won't even bat an eyelash.

I think its just in their nature. My cats go hide when we have people come in the house they have never seen. I would just let them go and hide.

He hides wherever he wants too. I don't choose his hiding spot, it's his choice. I can't cuddle him when he's startled, he just wants to left alone to deal with it. I don't believe in pushing my self on him when he's hiding.

yes Sherlock27 is right. Let the cat run under the or hide wherever it wants to. But be around when he's ready to come out of his hiding place and give him a treat and a cuddle... remember, cats are very independant beings and can basically look after themselves. Just give your cat access to the wardrobe or somewhere dark and quiet for it to hide during the fireworks
