Timidity is a type of death is it not? In trying to content ourselves with sedentary lives, are we not killing the drive which first compelled those before us to venture out, to dare the next mountain peak or wave? Are we not denying the fertility of imagination in our refusal to move? In an efort to save our nomadic instincts, to see the world before middle age and domesticity claim us, my partner Joe and I are embarking on an adventure. However, we need your help. If you could recommend one place to us, one locale, there is so more we might see. Our plan is to leave in April, after college debts have been defrayed. I had thought Alaska would be a great starting point, but am a bit put off by the cost of living. Has anyone lived there? Is it easy to find a job? We both have spent the majority of our lives on the east coast and are eager for the west (in the immediate future). But I am desperate to go abroad again. I miss Europe and want to see Africa. Does anyone know a good company to work through to help with work visas and the like? I know how to get a work visa but employment with a US company would make that hassle unnecessary. Tourism is probably the best field, right? As you can see, there is a lot we need to figure out before April. Please offer any suggestions you can however.
