Best Friend Keeps Crossing Lines

I have this amazing best friend. I've known him for the past five years, and we're very close. At one point, I was comfortable telling him pretty much everything. Lately, he's changed. I don't know what happened, but he's just become this snippy and critical monster. I have so many other friends, and I can't bring one of them up. If I do, he makes a noise of disgust and starts ranting about what a horrible person they are. People talk about my friend sometimes, and I've always stood up for him, but he won't even let me get a word in to defend my other friends. I can't share anything with him now because of this critical attitude. It's exhausting, and I just want my friend back. Has anyone ever been in this situation before? I could use some advice.
