Wall-E - "Malthusian Fear-Mongering"? Have They Gone Nuts?

I haven't seen the movie yet and I probably wouldn't have really been interested in doing so until I heard about the uproar over it from the right-wing nutcases! It's been called "Malthusian fear-mongering" with "fascistic elements" by Jonah Goldberg. Greg Pollowitz vows, "I will do my part to avoid future environmental armageddon by boycotting any and all WALL-E merchandise and I hope others join my crusade." Glenn Beck said, "I can’t wait to teach my kids how we’ve destroyed the Earth."

Shannen Coffin weighed in with, "From the first moment of the film, my kids were bombarded with leftist propaganda about the evils of mankind."
All of this about a Disney Pixar film about a love-starved robot set 700 years in the future! I wasn't sure if this belonged in the movies or politics interest although it wasn't intended to be a political film at all according to the film's director and I think we all know Hollywood is rarely shy about admitting to their movies having a message.
To make this a discussion, what do you think - will you allow your children to see something so vile and evil as to maybe make them think for a fleeting second about our environment?

WOW
You know, I never thought that JUST MAYBE a movie could have a point while also being entertaining.
People only bark a lot when their conscience is being stabbed.
[[Spoiler Alert]]
Sounds like Greg Pollowitz and Jonah Goldberg didn't watch the END of the movie when the people came BACK to help clean up and make it a better place. They must not know that all the satellites that NASA sends out into space and have broken down are NOT brought back down to earth to be recycled. They just send up another one. It's not hard to conceive what the consequences of these actions are.

Wow, they'd have really hated the end! People actually taking responsibility for cleaning up their mess? How LIBERAL is that?
The sad thing is they don't care about the satellites up there, they don't care about finding a SAFE place to get rid of our spend nuclear waste before building more reactors as McCain wants to do, they're living in this fantasy world where nobody will ever have to pay the piper. Pollute, spend, use up our resources like there's no tomorrow and let those that are here tomorrow worry about it.

My kids have already seen it and loved it. It's got great reviews from co-workers, also. This is the first I've heard about the right wing attempts to politicize it. Nut-cases, indeed!
Is it so controversial that we've been destroying the environment? Kids are well aware of the need for greater protection of the environment, with or without this movie. Right wingers are like King Canute, fighting off the sea with a sword.

They were discussing it on MSNBC the other night, I think on the Dan Abrams show and they were talking about how Glenn Beck went off the deep-end over it. You're so right about kids being well aware. My granddaughter, who is now 11, has been very environmentally conscious for a long time already; no, she's not some liberal wacko, she's a kid who loves other kids (and adults) and who loves nature and animals and knows she has to do her part to keep it clean and beautiful.

jeezu. well you know what? lets take them on it, lets agree that it is just spewing how horrible and aweful the world will become because of OUR actions. because honestly, that part ISNT FICTION!
of course my kid is gonna see this movie, and the rest of the family too! and how truly horrid if it makes us thinks just a little more often to recycle that stupid can etc. etc...
they are just sitting out there with an eyeball on everything possible, LOOKING for something to try and kill the environmental awareness that has become so widespread!
why? because they own parts or have stock in the damn big corporations that will start loosing money if we as a whole start trying to find ways to be a better caretaker for our home!
ack! makes me want to throttle everyone of them and then jump up and down on them screaming "see how it feels!?"
course they would miss the point of that being how earth feels and claim that some crazy "greenie" used a terrorist attack to try and get attention!!
aaaagh!
