When I joined mylot.I created a discussion about smoking entitled "Cigarette smoking is dangerous to your health"..I received a lot of comments...now I'm doing it again..How can I stop?..My boyfriend and I tried to stop. After I made the discussion we tried not to buy a pack of cigarette..but after 2 days we longed for it.Well at least we didn't buy the whole pack.We just bought the pack for 10's only..so at least we are able to lessen it a bit..but help...how can I stop it.At the office if it's break time..your officemates will go to my station and will ask me to join them for a cigarette..gosh..there are people around you who are smokers and will insist or pull you to be with them in the smoking area for a chit chat too.I'll tell them that I'm trying to stop and they'll just laugh at me.sad.So I'm vulnerable sometimes and I can't avoid them.sorry...how can I stop?..what am I gonna do?...help!!!!

Yeah, I remembered that discussion. Hey, don't worry, it's really not that easy. I tend to sneak with a few sticks when I was trying to quit. First thing I do notice is the work environment. You're in a call center right? Please do correct me if I'm wrong. But the urge to smoke tends to be stronger when it is a "social" activity. I even had one time when I was trying to quit and one of my officemates asked me to go down and smoke. All it took was one question. "Gusto mo bumaba? yosi." (Wanna go down for a smoke?)
It was hard especially when you usually smoke at least 10 sticks a day. I understand how it feels. The best way to handle it, which worked for me, is to tackle it psychologically. You can try it at least. . We smokers know the bad effects of it on us. Let's kick it up a notch. Think of its effect on your family, your friends and loved ones. Smoking can definitely kill. We don't want to leave them behind early. Think of your future as well as your boyfriends. You still have plans right?
Sorry for the sarcasm but sometimes it could really help. But most important of all, whatever method you'd want to apply, always believe that you can quit. You know you can. Take care sis! Wish you all the best! You can do it.

Yez, that's me. I'll be starting in 2 weeks. Still working on the pre-employment stuff. That's helpful as well. Will power to avoid smoking. Siomai can do the trick. Look for more options that would keep you occupied for the 15 minute breaks. It's a good start that you are really into quitting. Don't lose that drive and keep it up.

thanks again... ;p well I just hope I can do it.Actually my boyfriend can actually stop himself from smoking and since I have this way of making him give in to my request...if I asked him to buy a cig he'll remind me that we should be quitting but will still get me a stick of cig..I know its not an excuse if I'll say "1 stick only"..hmp..well I know someday I can quit..

hi.....its easy to stop smoking but to stay stopped its tough ,i have been trying this method for a while and it worked,if you want to stop ...stop no reducing to few sticks then stopping it ,whenever we feel like stop smoking or drinking our tendency is to have it today and stop from tomorrow try the other way round im not going to smoke today may be i smoke tomorrow, you can also take it hour by hour .one day at a time or one hour at a time....:)

If you really wanted to quit you would do it with no problems - I firmly believe this. I am serious. Have a good old think about what you really want. try to apply logic even though smoking is not logical. Remember that wanting a cig is the most stressful thing so it is not relieving stress it is creating it. Do it alone and do it for yourself - avoid the smokers who like to laugh at you. If you want to do it you will. Think of it not as quitting but as taking up clean air and freshness. Eat a lot of fruit. There is some evidence for avoiding tomatoes in al your foodstuffs for the first week or so - try that too if you like.

You've taken the first positive step! Don't ever stop trying to quit smoking! I smoked for over 30 years, and I can identify with you on how hard it is to quit. How did I personally do it? I am a lab tech, and when I was in school I contracted pneumonia, I had to make a decision, quit smoking, or, lose out on all of my schooling. It's funny, because I quit cold turkey. I drank a lot of water, and I think that the moral to this story, is I decided that I really wanted to quit and stuck to it! When all of your friends smoke it's hard, mine did too. I had to distance myself when I was quiting smoking. Had to be a loner for awhile at school, and you know what? Because I chose to do this, my friends who did smoke actually respected me for it. I tried so many different times to quit, tried the patches, etc. My advice to you is to make a decision to quit and stick with it!!! Support systems are a must when you are trying to quit. I called my best friend on the phone everytime I wanted a smoke, and it worked, I didn't light up! You can do this!!!!

An officemate of mine had pneumonia as well..what's funny is that she is not a smoker and don't have any vices. And we have this lobby or terrace at the office which we call "lungs center"..it's an open air terrace where we can smoke..so its a smokers place ;p ..after our lunchtime..my officemates would as me to smoke and some of our friends who doesn't smoke would tell us "You have just welcome yourself to Mr.P ( P - for pneumonia)..so we'll just laugh and of course in my case..I am actually scared but again hoping I can stop.thanks for the reply

Wen my Mom and Step-dad wanted to smoke, they went on the patch. It worked for them because it was known that to moke while on the patch would be deadly. They didn't want to take that risk, so they never tried smoking while they were on the patch. They've been smoke-free for 11 years now.

good day.. I quit smoking for more than a year now and I didn't grave for it either but I did start late at the age of 26 during my internship. The most I smoked in a day and it seldom happened is around 6-7 sticks. Well, being in the medical field I just thought it's time. The complications later on isn't worth the puff and believe it really doesn't. Better quit now when your lungs are still healthy than later when they're not. I know it's hard specially when you started young but you've got to try. you can ask for prescription of nicotine patch and have your mind set. Will power is the key. Hope you do quit.
