19 is okey. After people grow up, they feel more dread about safe, that is why swimming is more difficult for adult than children. Dont worry too much. That is fine.

It's never too late to learn how to swim. My father in law was in his fourties when he learned how to swim. He's 60 now and he's still enjoying the fact that he now knows how to swim. There are special lessons out there for adults to learn how to swim and even lessons for adults scared of water/drowning.
Never give up and go get some information at your local swimmingpool. Good luck!

My first swimming lesson was jumping from the jumping board and leave the fear behind. People drown when panicked. Try this as a first lesson. It is the best safety measure to avoid drowning. When you sink into the water, lift up your knees to your chest and hold them there with locking hands, even if you don´t have air, you will surface as in the fetal position all the air is compressed inside the body into the chest acting as a big bubble. Then lie on your back on the surface of the water and put your head all the way back as much as you can and your hands on your side moving the water and your feet slightly moving, you cannot sink again. That will take your fears away. Do it and ask somebody to just watch you but don´t panic, master it, and then you will start to like being in the water. The next steps are easier when you master your fears.
Wish you the best, and, oh, 19 is an excellent age to start.

hi, its better late than never. Swimming is an important thing. You gotta learn it, not only for the purpose of enjoyment but also it will help you in emergency. And you can learn swimming at any age. Its one of those things that doesn't have a age bar. Better learn it immediately. Its also not that difficult but if you start to enjoy it the learning process will be even more easy.......

It's probably not too late. When I took swimming lessons I was 17 or 18 I think. And there were also 40 year olds who couldn't swim in the class (it was a community college class). Older people often had to get over a fear of water first, but I didn't have that fear. I'm not really a great swimmer now, but if you tossed me of a boat or something I'd do okay for awhile.

No. It is fine to start at your age. I guess there is no cut off age to learn swimming. In fact, old people use this a good exercise, since it is exciting.
I guess if you want to loose your weight and you don't know how to swim, then it is best sports to learn since you need to do a lot of efforts to learn and you will find your weight start to down.

I don't think it's too late for you to learn how to swim although it might be a bit difficult if you have a problem with balance or something. I don't know how to swim and I'm 29. So you're not alone. =)
