Nonresistance

It has been said that nonresistance is the key to the greatest power in the universe, and that what we resist persists. It seems that some of the greatest minds in history would agree. Jesus Christ said, " resist not evil, but whosoever shall smite thee on the right cheek, turn to him the other also, and if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also". In more recent times Mahatma Gandhi proved the truth of of this statement when he singlehandedly took on the greatest empire the world had ever known and won.
Having said that however, this does not seem to be the experience of most of us. We say that this sort of thing only makes us weak and a doormat for others to trample on, and there appears to be ample prove of that happening all around us. So we have become instead a society whose motto is 'look out for number one'. Were these great men, and others like them wrong, or have we failed to somehow comprehend the real meaning behind their words and actions? Most would agree that there is much to be desired in the world that we have created and if nonresistance really is power, how do we start implementing it? Before we brush aside the idea as 'nonsense', lets ask ourselves, are we really being as 'practical' as we thing we are?

I do not believe most people grasp the true concept behind non-resistance. They confuse it with a sort of meek acceptance. We are creators. We create with the power of our minds. What you continually put your attention on draws more of the same thing to you. Resistance is putting your attention on what you don't want. The point of 'non-resistance' is not to meekly accept undesirable experiences, but to not give them more power by your attention to the subject, rather, to actively direct your attention to what it is that you would prefer. There is nothing meek about that, but instead there is strength and wisdom.
The reason non-resistance is power is because in the state of not resisting, which is the state of allowing all life to be exactly as it is, without censoring, criticizing or judging, then the life force - what some people call God - is able to flow freely through you.
And how you start implementing it is one thought at a time... by paying attention to the way you feel as you think a particular thought, and then giving your undivided attention to the thoughts that make you feel good when you think them. Or at least the ones that make you feel a little better, hehehe.
It takes diligence and persistence and an overwhelming desire to feel good. People will call you selfish and self-centered, they will self-righteously accuse you of 'looking out for number one', or of burying your head in the sand, or of wearing rose colored glasses. I do not pay any attention to all of that... I 'turn the other cheek' and give my undivided attention to the inexpressible joy and unconditional love that is my goal.

We will have to agree to disagree on this one Pose. I don't think Jesus or Ghandi were ever about nonresistance at all. They were both men who fought incredibly hard to get their point across. Ultimate warriors so to speak. Their weapon was PASSIVE resistence not NON-resistance. They are two completely different things. If they had been nonresisters they would have no place whatsoever in history.
Neither of them stopped their mission. That would be nonresistance. Doing nothing at all is nonresistance.
They kept fighting so strongly that one changed the world as we know it and the other gained independence for an entire country. Both against all odds and vastly superior fire power. I call that some serious resistance!
We don't have to kill to fight tenaciously for a cause we believe in. We do it all the time.. every time people go out on strike to get changes to working conditions. That's passive resistance. When we vote for a certain political candidate to initiate change that is passive resistance. Whenever we sign a petition to save a species that is passive resistance.

Hi craftcatcher, An excellent response, thank you. Passive resistance may indeed be the best way to describe the teachings of both Jesus and Ghandi. Although they both advocated non-violence, neither gave an inch in what they felt was right. I think the answer may indeed be in the difference meaning of the two words. Thanks again. Blessings.

A great book to read on the subject of non-resistance is:
ASK AND IT IS GIVEN, (Learning to manifest your desires), by Esther and Jerry Hicks.
In part the book discusses our human tendency toward resistant thought and how resistant thought keeps us from improving our life experience.
Through development of what is referred to as "The Art of Allowing," one can over a period of time, create a self-directed head-shift toward non-resistancy, for purposes of attracting a desired experience.
I highly recommend this book to those searching to understand the potential affects of living a resistant-based life.
It is truly ponderworthy.

Pose: If you are finding satisfaction with "Ask and it is Given," also consider reading the following:
1) The Secret
2) The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Chopra
3) A New Earth ~ Awakening to your life's purpose by Tolle
I am interested in any discussion or feedback on the subjects of these books.
Thank you as well for your contribution to the discussion and BLESSINGS to you.

And one more quote in keeping with the topic of resistance... a direct quote from "The Secret," and one I increasingly dwell on is:
"What you resist, you attract, because you are powerfully focused on it with emotion. To change anything, go within and emit a new signal with your thoughts and feelings." (The Secret)
Somehow, from deep inside of myownself, I accept the above statement as truth.
Keep up the great discussions!
