Edward Norton in the Illusionist

I am perpetually reminded that the quality of films is on the decline. I have stopped watching television altogether, bored by the melodrama and overplayed inner turmoil. We rarely make it to the movies and when we do, it is depressing. That being said, I was pleasantly suprised to find myself enjoying the Illusionist and wanting to see it again. It was fascinating to be enthralled in a movie for a change. I truly wanted the antagonist to suffer and was torn between admiring the investigator and despairing over his complicity. Jessica Biehl portrayed a strong woman willing to confront death and class abandonment for the love she felt for a childhoos sweetheart. When it releases on video, please rent it. The end is worth the rest, I promise.
