Whenever you travel, where do you mostly stay? In a hotel or a hostel. I mostly stayed in a hotel because I usually travel with my mom, but I've tried staying in a hostel once and I think it's ok, just basic stuff and no elevator.

I used to stay in youth hostels when I first began traveling. I found that they varied considerably in quality. I have been to many youth hostels in Europe and the USA, a few in Asia and many in Australia and New Zealand. Some of them had high standards and were in delightful locations. I met travelers in the hostels from all over the world and made many friends. Staying in hostels meant that I could stay for long periods of time overseas and it gave me more comfort than camping. I preferred to stay in small dorms rather than large dorms.
These days I travel with my baby soon which means I need a single room not a bed in a dorm. It means that accommodation costs more than youth hostels. We stayed in guest houses and bed and breakfast accommodation on a trip to Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. I didn't meet many other travelers because we didn't stay in youth hostels. I prefer locally owned low rise accommodation like beach huts or cheap guest houses than foreign owned high rise hotels. I like a basic standard of accommodation that is clean and accessible with my baby's stroller.
