my accident prone son

Is it just me or are there others out there that seem to have children that are accident prone? Just today, July 4th, I had to bring my 13 year old son to get x-rays on his right hand. He was playing around with his friends and punched a punching bag. He now has a broken hand and something they call "boxer's fracture". He will be going on Monday for a hard cast, but in the meantime has a soft cast on. Just enough to put a damper on his summer vacation.

Me and my fiance do not have any children yet,but when I was younger my parents used to tell me a lot that I was accident prone, because I was always hurting something, that and I was not very graceful,I think I am less accident prone now that I am older.

I think as we all get older more and more aches and pains actually happen, but less accidents. I certainly know that I am not graceful at all but I usually manage to escape without an injury most of the time. Thanks for responding to my discussion, like I said before it is wonderful to hear everyone else's point of view on certain topics.

I must be like your son. I am very accident prone and am constantly getting something done to myself. There are ways to get around with having a cast. It is easier because it being on his arm. If he wants to go swimming throw a bag on it and make sure that it is air tight so water doesn't get in. He will however still have to be carefull. Hope he gets better quick.

Yeah, he has a very good attitude about bad situations, he always looks at things positively. Both of my children love swimming, so at first my older one was discouraged. He knows now that there are ways he can still go swimming and have fun. Thanks for your concern

That would definitely ruin a vacation. I hope that your son still finds some fun things to do, even if he cannot go swimming. My sister broke her arm one summer, and she still got in the pool, she just moved around and set it on a float so that it would not get wet. She had fun, so hopefully, your son will too. I think she fell from the monkey bars and broke it. I was very accident prone when I was younger, and I still am. I have broken or fractured my thumb, kneecap, and wrist. I have had to get surgery because I landed on my kickstand. And, I have sprained my ankle several times. Nowadays, I just walk into walls and run into table corners, and trip over nothing.

My son is certainly the type of child that will try and make the best of any situation. His spirits are always up, he will be able to go swimming because they have these rubber glove things that go over a cast to prevent it from getting wet. Wow, the things they come up with nowadays. I've had a few breaks and fractures over the years, myself, but I honestly didn't think something like that could actually be heritary. But thanks for telling your story like that, it's always good to hear from others.
