how to get funding or start one: in the small towns in my state, area, there are little to none animal shelters; the ones that are here are sad and to call them shelters is blasphemy. The one person i know that runs a fair place, she is the animal control contact for the town i work in, well, she is compassionate yet poor, and is interested in helping the animals much more but needs help. Is there anyone out there that can give us ideas or have info on how to get subsidising, grants, donations, volunteers, sign up for a no-kill affiliate or something. we are both wondering how do these places exist and how they keep running. Is there something that is done with the state or cities help? Is it the government? ANY info , ideas, suggestions, ANYTHING would be of a great help, thankyou to all of you who LOVE ANIMALS...hmarie

Hi!
I helped to start a non-profit group so I might be able to help a bit. You're going to have a really hard time getting any government funding generally, so I'd try fundraising for donations first. In the future you might be able to start a small store at the site of the rescue and get some money that way. At first you may have to rely on donations and easy fundraisers (such as starting a CafePress store).
Hope that helps!
