How did you spend your childhood summers?

Did your family take a summer vacation? Were you on a sports team that played games all summer? Did you visit relatives or go to summer school? I have many fond memories of spending alot of summers with my grandparents. Since there were five children in my family when I went to visit "Gramps and Nanio" it was always a special time alone with them. When we went fishing at the lake my Nanio would sit on the rocks and sing and play her ukalalee while we fished....so sweet. What summer memories do you have?

My uncle had a gorgeous summer house on Cape Cod, and my parents sent me there every year as soon as school was finished. Two cousins and I were within a month of each other in age, and we were closer than any sisters. We played on the beach when the weather was good and inside the fireplace when the weather was good. We were each given a powerboat for our 10th birthdays, soo we raced around through the harbors and explored the little islands. It was idyllic fun.
It's so sad that this would be unsafe for kids now.

Thanks for the "best response". Are there places left where kids can be left alone from sunup to sundown, and nobody has to worry? I think the best part of all the things we 3 girls did was being trusted to take proper care of ourselves and each other, so nobody had to be concerned about what we were up to, or what anybody else was up to! My uncle knew we were raised properly, so what could there be to worry about? These days, parents need to have their children within their line of vision all the time, and they're not necessarily safe anyway. How sad for our world!

The summers when i was young,we never went on a vacation.not with the family or snything like that. i was sent on my own little vacations, things like gymnastics camp, or like 1 week camps we would go to diffrent places like kids discovery zone, or to the zoo the summers when i was 6-12 i had a blast i basicly lived at out recreation center during the summer i was always involved in somthing. after that i was just a child roaming in the streets getting into trouble.lol there was no camps or anything for the summer for me were my mother made us move:(....
Also one thing i remember veary fondly was earth day... that was a d ay i looked forward to. we would clean all the way around our recreation park. we even put on bathing suits and went swimming in our creek picking up trash out of there...(there wasnt much) it was fine to swom in LMAO.
i even found 5 dollars on time haha. But the recreation center would provde hot lunches for us...we had sleep over and slept in the gymnasium... i wil cherish thoes year for the rest of my life:) i could sit and talk about thoes days for forever. i was truley a happy girl back then:P

Earth day sounds like so much fun! What a great activity for kids to be involved in. The different little camps you went to are like some of the ones my daughter went to. Thanks for sharing.

When I was still back in early grade school, almost every summer vacation me and my family spend a few days at the province where my grandparents are. The rest of our relatives are within the village and we find it nice that we could have mini-reunions every time we go there. We usually have nice meals and by golly, they chat a lot. Oh, well, we play a lot as well.
There are times when I just take a week vacation by myself at my grandparents in the province. I get to play with the rest of the kids in the neighborhood, rest, eat and have quality time with my grandparents. I miss those days. I can still visit them though. Hopefully when I get a long break. Take care!

Growing up my parents used to pack us up and send us to the country. Yes we used to visit my father's side of family. Sometimes I would enjoy going there but at another time I dislike it alot. Going to the country itself was enjoyable because we were coming from a different parish and so we will see alot of things on the roadside that we normally don't see. I have some favourite cousins on that sides that used to makes our welcome special.
My grandparents was alive at the time and visiting them was a ritual for my father. The funny thing is that when his mother die then it stop. I enjoy my summers because I was able to among my mother and helping her do the things that she enjoyed doing. It was great for me.

Summer vacations could be such great adventures when we were young. It seems when we grow older it becomes more of a hassle to plan and execute vacations, especially coordinating with other family members. Thanks for sharing your memories!

its nice to know that you had great time in your summer holidays, and co incidently even i have spent most of my summer holidays at my grannies place. we used to play a lot of games over there and enjoy the hot summers in a cool way. all that is more of past now as we are unaable to go there. everyone is busy with their work and we never get big holidays to be there and have a merry time together.

I remember only that I had to spend my days at home always with cleaning the flat, and do houseworks. and I was bored, because I might not go anywhere. :(

My parents always lock me or don't like I go out when I was young. So at my childhood summer, I always stay at home, and watching TV, or doing my homeworks, or reading books. I like read very much, and like watching those TV plays. When I 'm still young, I said to my mum that when I reading those bood, it's like I'm eating a candy, feels very sweet. I still like reading bood very much, but I don't agree to lock me in the home, it's make me very introvert, don't openly, and don't like to make friends.

we are from tamil nadu, india, but my mom's mother was from aluva, kerala. It was nice place with different language, different kind of dressing, they were friendly as well. I have many happy memories spending time there, visiting many places, during onam festival people wear different costumes and they used to paint their faces in a unique way, and they have the famous boating race as well.
