Your Thoughts on Fireworks?

It's independence day here in the US, and for some reason, this holiday is always celebrated with fireworks.
Any thoughts on them?
I, personally, don't really care for them. THey were illegal in teh state I used to live in. I now live in a very DRY, desert like climate, and fireworks are legal here, which just seems STUPID.
It's not even night time, and I can already see a large fire in the foothills, that has been blazing for at least 2 hours. Sirens have been going off all day. These little sparks from errant fireworks could easily start a wildfire, and I think it's really irresponsible. Besides the fact that it freaks out a couple of my dogs, and they hide in the basement all night from the noise. All of that risk for what? Is it really worth it?

I love them - if they are dealt with by professionals. Here they are often banned due to dry weather and the fear of fires. Luckily for us we finally got some rain the last few days so everything is very damp and not likely to burn. It seems the damp weather has also put a damper on all the illegal ones that tend to go off in the neighborhood. I don't like them near my home only because my dog is terrified of them. (Why is it the biggest dog becomes the biggest baby over these things, LOL)

I really wish they would have banned them this year where I live. It is SOOO dry, and forest fires can (and did ) start so easily. But they still sell them on the street corners. Hopefully, the weekend is over and it'll be done until next year.

While fireworks may be illegal they're still tons of fun. Here in Canada everyone stock piles fireworks for halloween. While there are some kids who take things too far, fireworks are very safe when handled with care and not tampered with. the only real risk comes from people taking their fun too far.

The fireworks are about to drive me nuts this year. I am trying to work but we have new neighbors and they have taken over the subdivision where we live. We were the first ones here and we cannot get any peace of mind here. I hate it. they have been letting off firworks since yesterday. I would love to have the money they have spent on them. My dog is hiding in the bathroom because of them also. I am waiting for my neighbors to cause a fire with all they have been setting off also. They cannot even afford to pay their rent or house payment, but they can fire a large amount of fireworks. It doesn't make sense.

I absolutely despise fireworks. Mainly because of the effect on wildlife and animals. Not to mention that they're so expensive and a waste of money.
I work in an animal emergency centre and we get so many animals in when fireworks have gone off. These animals have run away, jumped fences, gotten hit by cars, smashed through glass doors in terror trying to run away..it's horrible. Then there's birds that are flying over that get blown up mid-air. Here where I am from, we have something called Riverfire which involves thousands and thousands of people (idiots) who think it's fun to line up at 6am to get a 'top spot' in front of the river. They wait all day then there is a huge fireworks show that syncs up with the music on one of the local radio stations. People just think it's fantastic and they are clearly amused by simple things.
Meanwhile there are dogs jumping through glass doors and birds falling out of trees dying of shock. Absolutely brainless cr@p.

I haven't watched fireworks since my girls were very young. they don't do anything for me and i'm not one for crowds. I worked today so it wasn't even an option. I did notice that there were not as many this year. They are very expensive and as you said, a huge fire hazard. They are illegal in many places unless you have a permit. Here in the states, most are imported from china and just too costly. I heard a few going off tonite and yes, the firetrucks as well were zooming by. I'm sure they'll be in tomorrows news.

I think an organized fireworks display is beautiful and a great way to celebrate the fourth of July. I'm thinking of the Macy's Fireworks special or any of the other fireworks displays at parks and beaches.
On the other hand, illegal fireworks are not only dangerous, but they are just loud and obnoxious and in no way entertaining. I have to say that in my area alone there were many, many illegal fireworks being set off.
I was appalled of the lack of police security. I didn't see one squad car last night while all of these illegal fireworks were being set off one right after the other. I felt like I was living in a war zone for three hours last night.

I think they're beautiful! They should, however, be left to the professionsls. Too many injuries happen to people who think they can do just as well themselves. Fires are burning so much of the US already, why add more?
Here in Miami, it's storming. As soon as the storms subside, though, there are sure to be dozens of people setting off all sorts of fireworks, legal or not. Tomorrow morning, I'll clean up the debris from my lawn, as always.
I find myself holding my breath when the professional displays are going, but it's not voluntary. The beauty and skill these things project is truly breathtaking!
Happy Independence Day! May the world become free soon!

I am not a big fan of all the smoke and pollution that fireworks can cause, but I do appreciate and always go to watch the yearly ones that the county has. To me, they represent the freedom of our country, as well as hope of what to come. All of the counties that host fireworks do not have to go through the trouble; but they do, and I feel that people should appreciate them or at least be thankful that they have the choice of seeing them. However, I would be so much happier if they came out with new types that weren't so bad for the environment. :)

They actually are not legal here in pa but people use them . I dont mind them for the most part , but they can get annoying . I like sparklers and always have , or the bigger works in the sky . My dad never liked them or the noise , never saw any big woop on them . I however like them and always have to go see them in the park.I know for many they are dangrous and they are carless with them .

I must say that I do love watching the fireworks. I do agree with you, however, about the dangers! Where I live, there have been more sirens than usual and I am sure it has to do with the fireworks. This will be a weekend-long event in my area.
The sad part is that I saw on the news that there have been fires with people losing their homes due to fireworks that were set off by professionals! This just shows just how dangerous they can be.

when i was in my childhood, i spent a lot of time on playing with fireworks.it's funny and not dangerous to me. in my country ,china, the government once forbad firewoks in the city but failed only because of our deep-rooted tradition of fireworks. and it's easy to understand that the fireworks sometimes frake out the pets, because it was once made to frake out the monster nian by our forefathers.
the culture is the worth,i think.

I dont think fireworks should be on public sale at all. They're all very pretty but we hear of so many accidents and injuries caused by people being careless or irresponsible. Organized displays with good health and safety provision are ok. I'm surprised that, in this technological world, they haven't just been replaced by laser displays.
