I like to have a branded computer. Because branded ones manufacture according to certain standards.Assembled ones are cheap, but that cheapness attains by means of compromises.

Exxxodus is right. Brands like Gateway/Acer/eMachines cut corners and use substandard parts. This is especially true with eMachines since they have always been a crap brand. With an assembled PC you choose the parts and you know exactly what the quality of your parts is. I've seen plenty of eMachines and Gateways that die after 2 years. Meanwhile the PC I assembled for a friend has been running flawlessly for over 6 years now.

Well first off, a branded PC will not always be more durable and secure. Security is based on the software you use, your internet habits, and just how smart you are about avoiding security threats. Durability is based on the quality of the parts you use and many manufacturers use cheap parts so they can make more money. They cheap out the most on the power supply and that is what provides electricity to every part of your machine. They put in the weakest one possible which can make it difficult to upgrade some parts. Unless you specially order one, you'll always get a cheap motherboard with integrated graphics. A lot of them have Intel graphics which are absolute garbage. They also don't usually tell you anything about the motherboard and that is the most important thing inside your computer. Branded PCs are also limited to a pathetic 1 year warranty.
That said, assembled PCs are for people who know what they are doing. You need to know what brands are good for hardware, and you need to understand which parts are compatible. Assembly is not easy for a novice. If you know what you're doing you are guaranteed to get better parts. The parts you use have much better warranties than any branded PC will give you. Some parts have 3 or 5 year warranties while others may even have lifetime warranties. XfX has a double lifetime warranty which is awesome. Almost all major brands of RAM memory have lifetime warranties. Motherboards used in assembled PCs offer much better upgrade options and get supported for much longer than branded PCs. Think about drivers for your computer. How often does a company offer new drivers or software for a branded PC after you buy it? Never unless something is broken.

I've done some of both. I would say that if you have the money you can probably customize a branded just how you want it. Sometimes they are a good deal and other times you are royally screwed over on the pricing you get from customizing. The bad side with building your own is that you end up being the one to find the bad parts then have to send them back. It wastes your time and while you save money you gain extra hassle. What is your time worth to you is really the question between the two for the most part. Even if you get a pre-built PC these days you'll probably still add some after market items a year or so later to upgrade it in place of buying something completely new.

well i have used a branded one for the first time and then i have used assembled on then. but i have learned that if you are not very good with the hardware part then it is better that you go for a branded one. although you will give a bit extra at the start but then it is worth investing one a branded one. the parts that they use are very good and 99 percent time they dont giv you problem. i have a hp pc which is now more than 7 years old and it works just fine with 98 and xp installed in it. the monitor is still good. the SMPS never game a probelm. nothing where as i face quite a few probs with the assembled one. it is good that i can solve them as i have knowledge. but htose who dont know will cry

I'm going to have to disagree about "branded PCs being more durable and secure". Big PC manufacturers use the cheapest materials available to cut costs, like any business. They're going to give you the weakest case, power supply, etc. that they possibly can without all of them breaking outright within the warranty period. As for security, custom-build PCs are just as secure as any one that you buy from a store, possibly more because you know exactly what you're putting in it and what you're loading onto it right from the start, without all the useless crap that Dell or HP or whatever THINKS you might want.
I'd say that if you have the knowledge to build a computer and you know where to get good deals on parts, BUILD YOUR OWN COMPUTER. It's going to be cheaper, better, and you'll have the ever-so satisfying feeling of sticking it to The Man (that is, big computer companies). Plus, it can be a pretty lucrative local business if you really get into it.

Well my Dear buddy i was in this confusion a few years ago and i ended up with an assembled one at the first time and a branded one the second time.
The main differences between these two is that the assembled one gives you a choice to choose all what you need and it ios like you are making a computer of your own based on the need of your requirement.
while the branded one gives you a sense of security to your PC and a name on it to carry, it has a good quality options to select from but it may not really fit into your requirments perfectly like the assembled one.
Over all I don't advice you anything, its upto you or you can listen to some other advice.
Happy Mylotting.
