Heidi, hang in there she is probably holed up somewhere where she feels safer. My neighbors decided to set off fireworks this year and my dog was terrified. He went under the shed for most of the night until the noise stopped.
I hope you find her soon. Is there an animal control place nearby? You might find that she has been picked up by them. Many pets run off in a panic on the fourth and they pick up a lot of them.

How horrible, they do not even try to find their owners for at least a couple of days?

pray, go look for the dog, call animal shelters in the area, call police, call neighbors and friends, etc. just tell people around you to be on the lookout for ur dog and they spot him. and call u right away.
think about it...where would ur dog go if he is scared...what r the places that he knows and feels safe as to hide in...go there and check them...

Yes, I have lost my dog, many years ago when I was a kid about 14 yrs old. His name was Pepper. And he loved to run. And because of that, my family and I had to be careful when we would open the door. We would always be taking him for walks and running with him(with leash in hand of course) that way, but he loved to just bolt and go and visit his dog buddies around the neighborhood. All we had to do was call and he would return, but there were times we had to go and find him and we always did. So, this particular time he bolted, and he wasn't any where to be found. My whole family was frantic especially me. He was my best friend, my companion, my buddy, we did everything together. I was lost without him. My family and I had copies of pictures of Pepper made and made up posters and everyone did their part. My Dad and I took our homemade posters and went different directions putting them everywhere so everyone would see them. My Mom
called the pound, she called the shelters, she called the neighbors, the police, anyone she could think of. Then finally, the dog warden drove up to the front of our house. I was so excited but scared too, all at the same time. My heart racing with anticipation. What would I find? What would the Dog Warden tell me? I reached his vehicle and he got out and walked to the back and said "Here ya go" I was so relieved and thankful, there he was poor baby, he looked so scared in the back of that vehicle. Once he saw me, he started wagging his tail and the dog warden picked him up ( was a little guy) and put him in my arms and Pepper was so happy to be home, he kept giving me kisses. I was so grateful I thanked the dog warden and asked where he had found him. He told me at the fair grounds; at the time we lost Pepper there was a fair going on which occurs around the same time each year (september). He said that it seemed that someone had picked him up and then dumped him around the fairgrounds. He wasn't absolutely sure, but that is the only thing he could conclude. He said it was good that Pepper still had his ID tags on. It made it easier to find him plus the fact that we had called! So, we decided it would be a good idea to send him and us to obedience school so we wouldn't have to worry about him bolting anymore. I do miss him. He has been gone for several years now, but he was a great dog and I will always love him!
