I've decided this christmas I'm getting away from it all and going to india for 2 weeks - i have 2 friends who have gone out there for 6 months so it'd be nice to spend it with them. Presents will be on a minimal scale - i'll probably only buy for my 2 nieces, and tell my family i'm not buying any and i don't want any back.

That sounds like a good holiday, too...very practical....kinda a gift to yourself.

I am worried where I will get the money from. Not only is it tighter but we almost don't have enough to pay bills. We are looking on the upside, I have a book getting published next year but mean time that doesn't help the now. Christmas will definately be very tight for the children.

Congrats on your book! Looks like your ship is one the horizon and better days are just around the corner. Good for you!

I will pray that things turn around for you and your family. Please know that you are in the thoughts and prayers of the "community" out "here"

I spend about the same each year, when I have a bit of spare cash, I go looking for presents, I've got a lot wrapped already and some more being delivered soon, so instead of not having any money for Xmas to go out because I spent it all on presents, I've got them a month or 2 early so I can start saving.

seems in our house, that "spare cash" has all but disappeared. In the last few years we have sold stuff on Ebay for Christmas, but seem to be "sold out" this year.

Christmas is a time for family gathering and friends to celebrate together. For every celebration whether it is Christmas, birthdays, etc., we will buy presents for our families and friends.
In order to budget, we need to be selective in getting those presents!

We're always on a tight budget! I think we might spend a bit less on some people this time. I don't spend a lot on Christmas anyway as it's my oldest son't birthday 3 weeks after so we make more of that. I think we're just about going to be ok for money as I'm good at budgeting, as long as we don't get any unexpected bills!

Christmas will be tight this year for us. I am trying my hardest to make some extra money on here by the end of the month to get paid on the 15th of December and use on Christmas. Not sure where the rest of it will come from.

No I will not be spending the same on Christmas gifts this year, because last Christmas wasn't very expensive. I didn't buy any gifts last year. It was a rough time for me, but this year I will be buying a few gifts here and there. Most importantly, my family loves spending time together.
