I'm learning how to read Tarot cards on my own and was wondering if the use of books or intuition should be emphasized. I've used a little of both and believe that I've taken much too long! There has to be a more effective way!
What's your opinion? (especially people who can recall their own experiences in learning to read Tarot). Many thanks in advance! :-)

There are some online tarot courses out there, if you're comfortable with that. Also, check out the book Learning the Tarot: A Tarot Book for Beginners by Joan Bunning. It's a good start. Handle your cards and 'play' with them as much as possible, and spend some time contemplating each one to see what it means to you.
Good luck to you!

Quite a few people that I've spoken to have also highy recommended Bunning's book. And having borrowed that book from the library so many months ago, I now could see that I was on the right track. I've also been playing with the cards as well and found that in that Universal deck, no true connection seems to be happening. Yet. Maybe I should consider buying another deck.

It may be that another deck would be easier for you to identify with. I went and looked at several, and chose the one that called to me.

Actually, if you don't have a mentor..I would look at the book that comes with the cards and get a general idea?
In time you'll learn to go with your instinct and really "read" from your instinct!
