Could you kill?

Apparently 98% of people in battle never kill someone face to face. They can kill by dropping bombs and randomly firing machine guns but hardly anyone is prepared to look their enemy in the eye and kill them. The 2% that are brave/psychotic enough to kill are recruited in the things like the SAS.
I'm not convinced that is true.
could you kill someone if you needed too?

I am convinced that the facts are right in this case. I mean no person, except for those 2% of those psychotic people, would seriously look someone in the eye as they killed them. There is no way I could do something like that.
I guess, thought, in special circumstances, like if the person is trying to kill you, I might be able to do it. It would just be hard to think that you would actually kill a human being, someone who matters to his family. I just couldn't do it.

That's one problem I have with modern warfare. If you're going to take someone's life, I think that the least you could do is look them in the eyes as you're doing it. Every person killed in battle is a human being, and I think that everyone tends to forget that in the pressures of the moment.
I don't doubt that I could kill someone under the right )or wrong, really) circumstances. I don't think there's a human being on this earth that wouldn't kill someone in an extreme case. There's a great psychological lesson in murder and extreme circumstances.
