New Age? We have been around for centuries!

Does it bother anyone else that our books are not kept in the religion section of the bookstore? For that matter, what about that we are considered New Age? We have been around longer than most, if not all, of the known religions. Has anyone ever seen Wicca included in a world religions course? Why is it that everyone always looks at the magickal side of our beliefs and completely ignores the religious?

I've never cared for the new age branding. It really seems fluffy to me. Some of the things they put along side the realistic material really makes me scratch my head but hey they want money and when you have people who are willing to hop on a new religion bus every day there is a lot of money to be made.
I was in Books-A-Million today and some of the stuff was so funny to look at, some of it was good but most of it I wouldn't spend my money on if I had to. Then again maybe I'm too picky and set in my views to try something new.

exactly. It demeans us and makes us less credible to be placing us next to some of the fluff they have in that section.

That might explain why I have not bought a new book from that section of the store in nearly 15 years! How sad is that? I keep looking, but I'm not finding.

Hallo GoddessShashini and all the other wiccans,
I am not a wicca but am interested in parts of wicca.- You are asking why wicca is in the New Age Section of the book stores. I have some idea why. In the wicca Rede
there is the sentence: an it harm none do what ye will.-
This sentence is used by people of various New Age teachings in similar words too.
Wicca is very diverse and hard to categorize for most people. Plus it has the magic as part of it. - Not too long ago christian religions were very much opposed to such teachings and were condeming these things as witchcraft.- Now I had a Great grandmother who could heal with so called magic. ( herbs and blowing over the cattle etc.) she had learned this from a shepheard and people would come and consult her sometimes. Way back these people were the medical profession of today. Until peoplestarted to study the human body in institutions and started to treat people as if they were machines, making lots of money with it, to this day.- In the meantime there are lots of alternative healers around, getting more popular by the day, because they take their time and treat not only the body but also the soul. For example what about Reiki this is a form of energy healing involving an iniciation. - So what do wiccans do? Are they just worshipping a goddess and a god or are they healers?---
I am very interested.-
