I remember as a child, my mother would say, not to get into the bathtub when there was a storm. So, as a child I did not. But now, I really do not think about it, if it is thundering and I am ready for my shower, I take it. My father, would also go around and unplug things, the TV, toaster, radio etc. Do you go to extremes when there is a thunder storm?

Water is good at conducting electricity; personally, I don't want to find out just how good it is, so I don't shower or bathe during a storm. As for unplugging things, it is a reasonable idea; however, I usually don't do so unless the storm is a really nasty one. I figure that most of the important stuff is on surge protectors, and the less important stuff is just that-- less important.

Thank you , I finally got a response to my question by someone who understood the concept of why I was asking. I do not unplug anything, as a child my father would turn everything off. Thanks for your response.

I don't really understand the bathtub thing but i can understand the shower. It depends, if the shower is all the way upstairs, then I don't take a shower if it is a lightning storm, if it's just thunder, it's ok because thunder dangerous, only lightning is. My mom use to tell me the same thing when I was a child. Since my house has 4 bathrooms and 3 contains shower's, I take a shower in the basement bathroom(it's clean so don't worry) and it's nice and very usefull.

I think it was an overall thing about water, since water is a conductor of electricity/

if it's a bad storm,i'll unplug important things.i have had things blown out by a strike. my mom and grandmother said the same thing about tubs/showers. they claimed the lightning could be attacted by water via the pipes somehow. sounds like a longshot to me.

LOL I do not understand the bathtub thing. Why not get in the tub when it is storming? I do remember my grandparents unpluging the TV and disconnecting it from the outside antenna on the roof. I'm not sure if they unplugged anything else though. But they sure weren't taking any chances on lighting striking the TV! I don't unplug anything. I even leave the computer on. I love thunder storms.

I think the bathtub thing was because water is a conductor of electricity, so I think they thought it was dangerous to be in water. I guess same as people should not be in the water at the beach when there is a thunder storm. I remember many years ago, a teenager in my area was stuck by lightening, while he was on the telephone talking to his girlfriend, That was another no no from my parents.

Hi, sudalunts. I don't take a shower because sooner or later it will start lightning and I don't want to be washing up as this is going on. I know that my grandmother used to unplug all of the sockets and turn off the fans while it is storming. They even close the windows too. I know that I will turn off the lights while it is storming too.

i do not know i think the bath tub has something to do with bibes and water that you might get a shock somehow and it is always safe that you unplug the cables and electric wires and not to wear any metal earrings or necklaces or rings , bracelets it is all about electric shock i think

Hmm.. My mommy said the same thing too. The reason is it's too cold to bathe so it's better to wait till the thunderstorm is over. Now, it depends. If it's really cold, I wouldn't. I live in a flat so I think I am well-insulated from lightning. We do not go around un-plugging think during thunderstorms.

I would take a shower if there was a thunder storm. I can understand if you have really violent thunderstorms and the roof of your house might blow off and there you are standing/lying their naked getting showered/bathed, but in my area we just get a bit of rain and some thunder and lightening and nothing of any great danger, so I just go about as usual.

I don't bath or shower when there is a thunder storm. I'm very afraid of thunder, as I read a new when I was young. The news say there is a 18 years old girl, who was in the thunder storm and been lighting. After she look herself at the mirror, she become very old even like a 80 year old woman. Hairs are white, with wrinkle on the face. So ater a lighting, I always look at myself, whether hair still black. This maybe sily, but I keep look at the hair after lighting. So I will never shower or bath when thunder storm come.

My parents always said not to take a shower during a storm , because you could get struck , and of course we all listened to her . I dont know if that is true , or not , but it could be a risk . I have took a shower when it is raining before , and during a storm , because i had somewhere to go . I will say that my heart was pounding and it was a fast shower.

I've heard of the bathtub thing before. Some people are scared that the lightning will strike into the bathtub during the thunderstorm. I do unplug my computers during a big thunderstorm as i had experiences where my laptop and desktop were struck and damaged by lightning.
