I was just watching the news and they had a piece about monkeys as pet. I also watched the program called "Outsiders" They did a piece about people raising monkeys as their children. They treat the monkey just like a child. They dress them and having them sit and eat at the table in high chairs. But over time the monkeys turn on their owns and and attach them. some of the monkey have had their fingers cut off because they learn to open their cages, and have their teeth pulled so they can't bit. At some point in time they end up in monkey sanctuaries. Some monkeys are very cute and look so cuddly.
They are taken from their mothers very young and both the mother and baby are screaming. It's not against the law to own a monkey. Would you take a monkey and raise it as a child taking a chance that some time in the future it will turn on you? To tell you the truth i don't care much for monkeys. But I think it is cruel to take them from their mothers like they do

I watched that program also, and it was horrible.. I would never have a monkey in my home, and I would never take one away from their mother just to satisfy some odd craving of mine.. I believe some of these people wanted a child in the house, but didn't have sense enough to realize that these are not children.. It is so hard to believe that some humans are worse than animals themselves.. We are not supposed to treat animals like that, we are supposed to be a bit superior to animals and should be protecting them..

There was an excerpt on the news tonight. In my opinion if a person wants a child they could do foster care. A monkey belong in the forest. I couldn't believe the woman taking the monkey to a play ground with children . one of the children almost got bit. it would be horrible if he had been bitten.. The monkey could have taken a chunk out of the child arm. Some people just aren't very smart.

Dee, this particular monkey that she took to the zoo where it tried to bite the child when he tried to pet it, couldn't have bitten the child.. It told a bit later that she had had the monkey's teeth pulled so it couldn't bite, she had to feed it special food because she had the teeth pulled.. Talk about wanting to be a mother, it is a good thing that she just had a monkeey, there is no telling what she would have done to a child..

I read about this too. Personally, I think it's not only cruel to pull them away from their mothers, but also to remove teeth and (the ultimate cruelty) chopping off fingers so that they can't open their cages. To me, that is just to inhumane to contemplate! I wouldn't want a monkey for a pet. Back in the 70's I used to know 2 different couples that had them. They didn't lop off fingers, or remove teeth or anything like that; they were very kind to their monkeys. The monkeys were well behaved for many years, but the longer they owned them, the more the monkeys personalities seemed to change and they became nasty little creatures.
I don't know, but I imagine the type of people who dress their dogs and treat them like their baby, are the same types of people who want to dress their monkey and then treat them like a child too. Guess it's just one of those 'different strokes, for different folks' type deals lol....

The poor mammas to have their children snatched from them like that, how horrible and sad. I would not own a monkey, they are still a wild animal. Some people treat their dogs and other animals like children. I love my animals but they are still animals.

Hello dear deebomb. I don't think that I will ever have a money as my pet though they are so cute and clever. I just cannot bear the smell it has. Besides, I think that it is cruel to take a small money away from its mother and father. I love the moneys to live the way they like in the wild.

I always enjoyed watching the monkey's at the zoo and thought about how cool it would be to maybe one day have a pet monkey . I heard they are very smart and good pet that will keep you company . Still raising them as a kid would not even come close to having a real baby . I could never look at it that way , but seems people can . I would have one as a pet , but never do that !

I wouldn't have one as a pet. They are very smart but still they are wild animals and every one of them to turn at some point as they get older. I have seen wild life shows where they even turn on each other. i don't think that they are meant to be pets.

We had a neighbor who had a monkey. They are pretty stinky animals. They look cute and playful and all but they aren't necessarily very nice. Monkeys were not meant to live in houses and be kept as pets. I can see people taking them in if they are hurt or sick, but just to get them back to health. I think most of the monkeys that start out as pets end up not having the best lives. I am sure there are exceptions, but most exotic pets are more than the owner bargained for when they bought them.
