I knew someone that threw a glass of cold water on a kid having a tantrum. Instant cure. LOL

I couln't see throwing water on my child. I think that might just make them afraid of water... sorry irishidid. however, i'm sure it was a shock..

I wouldn't either. None of my kids had temper tantrums so I was lucky. I think the best thing is to ignore it.

Hey honeydew,
I as well have a very strong child. He is 3 and well he has his fair share of tantrums. At home we usually take him to his room and let it run its course. The thing is with tantrums one will get mad and start yelling themselves, but if the child notices that he/she isnt getting your attention with it they will soon realize that their not doing thing, but making themselves tired and they will quit throwing their fit.
Now public is always a hard thing, because you have people watching you from every point of view. We usually just take him to the car and the other one will finish getting what we need to get or if we are visting someone we will just leave and go home. Their not happy with that and it helps too. They realize that even though they are somewhere different the parents have the upper hand.
Hope this was helpful.
Thanks.
Gizelle

I don't often have to deal with tantrums, luckily. I don't remember my older 3 ever throwing tantrums, but my toddler has thrown a couple.
The most important thing to remember is to not give in to them when they throw a tantrum, otherwise they will learn that throwing tantrums is the way to get what they want. At home just ignore them, or send them to their room until they are done crying and can behave like a big kid. At the grocery store if they throw themselves on the ground, pick them up, put them in the cart, and go about your business.
Sometimes you may have to leave where ever you are and sit in the car until they have stopped.
