"Knocked Up" Maternity Shirt?

So today while I was at work, a young pregnant girl came in to shop with her parents. She couldn't have been older than 15. She was wearing a maternity t-shirt that said, "I'm Not Fat, I'm Knocked Up" where the words "Knocked Up" were printed very large. I thought it was a bit odd. "Knocked up" is a slang term for an unexpected pregnancy. I think the shirt is supposed to be funny in a sort of ironic way. Like it's funny to go around wearing a shirt that says you're knocked up when you were planning to get pregnant. But chances are, if you're that young then this pregnancy was not expected. So it's kind of odd to be going around wearing a shirt advertising that you're "knocked up". Like if she were my daughter, I'd feel very uncomfortable about her wearing a shirt that said that. So is it just me? Or do you feel the same way? I'm curious to hear about what other people think on this matter. If you had a teenage daughter who was pregnant, how would you feel about her going around wearing a shirt telling the world that she's "knocked up"?

Hmm, this is quite a funny situation if you think bout it for a min. I for one agree with you it doesnt make much sence that she would be wearing a shirt that said that when in fact that the pregnancy would be unexpected or now a days you never know with young girls. So happens there was a town not to far back that had several girls come up pregnant and they done it on purpose! as if it were a trend or something. anyway, I believe if I would have saw that I might have laughted to myself.. thanks for the thought. I don't particularly like the term "knocked up". Lol, it's sorta like she's making fun of herself. I never really pay attention the crazy shirts people wear nowadays. I see them as attention getters and nothing more. If she was a grown woman, I wouldn't be bothered by it, but a teenager...I don't think that looks good.

I would be mortified! That is in very poor taste. The thing is- many people just have no shame. They don't want to acknowledge that ANYTHING they do is wrong, or irresponsible, or plain stupid. It seems like she decided to make a poor joke out of her irresponsible behavior and her parents went along with it.

I would never allow my teenage daughter to flaunt the fact that she is pregnant, or "knocked up", when clearly her pregnancy will show all by itself in due time. It is bad enough that this teenage girl has found herself in this perdicament, but that in itself can and will be dealt with, but in now way would it be acceptable to flaunt this and send this message to other young teenage girls.

I think its her age as to why everyone is so shocked. How would you all feel about it if it was a married woman in her mid 20's and she and her husband had planned to get pregant? I find the T-shirt funny in a way, but not on a 15 year old girl. It seems a bit tacky on someone so young.

If I had a 15 year-old daughter who was wearing a shirt like that, I would not be too happy about it either. It is bad enough that she is pregnant at 15, but I would hope that if I had a daughter that she would be just like me. She would not get pregnant until after she turned 21. Being a teen mother is Hell. Not only do you have a child, but you still have to go to school and now you have to work to support that child. At 15, you should still be worrying about SATs and getting into the right college, instead of worrying about when your next ultra sound will be.

Yeah I see how some would think it's humorous but yeah, it's a bit innappropriate. I wouldn't even wear something like that as an adult and a pregnant teenager of mine would not be allowed to wear it in public either. Back when I was in high school there was another pregnant girl who actually wore a shirt to school that read "It started with a KISS and ended like THIS" with a big arrow that was supposed to be pointed toward her pregnant belly...only she wasn't very big yet so the arrow point a bit lower, if you get my drift. It was innappropriate for school either way and she was told not to wear it there again.

Wow! I thought that I had seen all the shirts. Well that is a new one. I cannot believe that anyone would allow their daughter to go out in public with that on. Let alone, the girl herself wanting to wear a shirt that proclaims that. Well I guess it is just sad, that is what I think it boils down to.

What do you expect from a pregnant 15 year old, if she got that far in life without knowing the word contraception then she's bound to have a dire taste in fashion. There are too many chavettes around these days who couldn't muster up anything humorous without poking fun at the obvious. Morons!

I don't know, despite the shirt I would feel uncomfortable about seeing a child who was pregnant. You never know the situation behind the shirt. She could be tired of people questioning her being pregnant and decided to wear the shirt so that people won't question her. She could have actually gotten pregnant on purpose. She could have felt shame for a long time and decided to wear the shirt and embrace her pregnancy instead of feeling shameful. She could actually be fat, and not pregnant, due to some kind of medical condition that makes her look like she's about to have a baby. The latter is probably not true, but the point is you never know. God bless her, the baby and her parents (who will be probably carry a lot of the burden of the new baby)

I'm not going to lie...I just laughed. If I was pregnant I'd so buy and wear that shirt. My mom would probably laugh too. She bought me a shirt that said IF YOU THINK I'M A B***H YOU SHOULD MEET MY MOM... so...I'm sure she'd enjoy the knocked up one too... of course I'm not 15... but I wasn't silly enough to get knocked up as a teenager... so... I guess we'll never know

I absolutely would not let my teenage daugher wear a shirt like that! Unfortunately parents nowdays don't seem to have much control over their teens. I saw a teenage girl last night that had a t-shirt on that said "It can't suck itself". Well you can imagine what went through my mind. It probably had some other meaning, but still very inappropriate!
