Put Your Hands on Your Head and Step Away from the Laptop!

What a day yesterday was! After spending a full day at the passport office getting my 14 year old son Niall prepared to go and visit his Dad (he had lost his passport and needed one in a day) on Thursday , making sure he packed everything he needed on Friday, yesterday morning was spent having cuddles and making sure he hadn't forgotten anything, and a little sneak onto the laptop. Lunchtime arrived and off we all set to the airport and nothing went wrong - much to my amazement and disbelief. When we got home I was obviously a little down as my boy is away for a few weeks so I spent time with the other half and Niamh and then decided it was time to keep trying to catch up here on mylot as I haven't gotten very far with that since we got home from holiday last weekend. I powered on and logged up only to discover the 20 tabs I had opened with discussions I wanted to respond to had disappeared, now how on earth had that happened? Then it dawned on me - the other half had logged on to my computer after I left it and to do so he had to log me out as there is only one user account set up on it and that meant he had lost all my tabs and i had already deleted the notifications they had came from! It wouldn't be so bad but I have already told him not to do that after a previous similar incident! Grrrrrr! I am not setting up another user account on this laptop as it is mine and there is another laptop and a pc in the house. I am considering setting up some kind of elaborate security device to set off sirens , flashing lights and a voice telling him to step away from the laptop if he ever goes near it again - if only I had the technical ability to do so! lol To all those people who might have expected me to answer their posts I am sorry but they are gone and it would take me for ever to find them from mylot - and I just don't have that kind of patience! Is there anything you have that you don't like to share? Has anyone ever lost vital things off of your computer and hoe did you punish them - I am going to have to get revenge for this one! lol xxx

Firstly I hope he has a wonderful time sis, although I suspect he will ;0) Naughty man! What are men like eh, greatest fiddlers on the earth, I was pretty sure I heard some expletives coming from your direction, now I know why, I returned from a very eventful Sunday ;0) I hate sharing full stop I am very very selfish, I could put an endless list here, but the main things that this wolf will NOT share is my computer, my car and my bed! Believe it or not I prefer to sleep on my own, single or double. Sharing chocolate is another thing I can't do, but I am more than happy to share my hobnobs with you!!! When are you going to let David out of the doghouse? It's thundering and lightening here so I think he can come in now? What say you? xxxxxx

I am sure he will - it is a digital media day camp thing he is going to - all about computing, music and films so he will be in seventh heaven!
I know you hate sharing but you would share with me - wouldn't you? That is a purely rhetorical question by the way as I know you would - I wouldn't give you any choice! lol
David has an awful lot of sitting up begging to do before I even consider letting him out of the doghouse - maybe that will teach him a lesson! lol Why don't we have thunder and lightning - we had a spectacular display of it last week and nothing since - can you tell I want him to suffer!. Love you ickle brother and never forget it! Hugs xxx

Not my puter for any one that comes on mine just goes to pogo and playes there and I try not o have anything open just in case.
But had an upset over MY radio . I bought a radio for the outside for us to listen too. And I had been waiting till 5 pm so to listen to country Chuck he plays classis western songs only on Sunday 6 am to 9 al then 5 pm to pm. Well Son in law had changed it to some funky music that I really don t lie but will listen to sometimes but I had told daughter I Was going to listen to that radio station and put it over there he said hey I was listening to that I told him it was my time and Linda knew it . We had a yelling match for a few and he thought he was going to turn it back but I had the remote! I listened to my station for a change!

That is a pain when you share a computer with others in your family. The only way your important information won't get lost is to set up separate user accounts and passwords on the computer so whoever uses the computer, then they can log in to their own section, and you have your own section, password protected of course.

LOL Done that too evlo but myu other half knows it as my health isn't always great and he needs to get into it sometimes when I am not up to using it! lol I do think though that I will change it and not tell him the new password unless he really needs it! Hugs xxx

Thanks evlo - I really appreciate that advice. WE do have user accounts on the other computers in the house just not MY laptop as it is mine and no-one else is supposed to use it! I know that sounds selfish but I NEED my laptop as I cannot sit at a pc and it is my main contact with the outside world as I cannot get around on my own and I am dependant on other people to get out! I have to figure out a way that if my other half even thinks of trying to get into my laptop he will be punished - severely! lol xxx

you asked about sharing. back in high school when i shared a locker with a girlfriend. at the end of the year while taking finals i went to the locker to get my notes and she had taken the lock off and kept it. also took her stuff out. leaving all my stuff including vital notes open to the world. someone stole my notes and i was horrified. they were good ones and without them i failed my final. but she didn't even tell me she was going to do that. she didn't seem to care at all. i did not share a locker with her again.

Awwwwwwww, after everything going so right, that must have been infuriating, my friend. I hope you suitably chastised him for going against previous instructions and losing all your tabs. You'll have to carry your laptop with you everywhere you go, methinks.
I expect Niall will be in touch with your shortly, my friend. I know it leaves a big hole when one of them goes away, but he'll be fine. Brightest Blessings, and hugggggggggs to you. xxxx

Well Darkwing I wish I could carry it about everywhere I went - I may have to just install some kind fo contraption that inflicts pain on anyone else who tries to touch it! lol I have already heard from Niall and I am sure he is going to have a great time but yep I do miss him already! Hugs xxx

You are so funny Mo. However, I don't understand why you have to each login. I've only ever had one computer which way back when I shared with my partner. Neither of us had to log-in...except where we each had accounts at the same site. But not to use the computer...do you mean he is a member of myLot as well?

Our computers are all set up that you need a password to login to each user account - it means each persons account is set up in the computer exactly how they like it and with their own programmes, backgrounds and preferences! I have one user account on my laptop and that is mine as no one else is supposed to touch it! He isn't a member of mylot although he hears a lot about it from me and weemam! lol xxx

Hello, Sis. No worries about getting caught up with all of your discussions. We are just happy to have you back here. I have had a crazy busy week and have not been able to do much replying to discussions either but have been meaning to welcome you back.
Lol at the thought of your partner backing away from your laptop, hands in the air. Keep an image such as that in your mind to make you laugh whenever you get down missing Niall. I hope you have plenty to keep you busy so that the times flies quickly without him.
So glad to have you back. Nice to know I have a daily smile to look forward to.
Yes, I've lost some vitals before but am afraid that I have always been the reason so I have never punished myself too harshly.

I would be very upset with you if you were to punish yourself sweet sis! Thanks for the welcome back and the discussion you started whilst I was gone - it made me feel really special! Niamh has been keeping me occupied - so much so she will hardly leave my side as she wants to look after me but it is really tiring! At least this time Niall is only away for a couple of weeks rather than a month! Hugs xxx

Now that sounds like a plan to keep him from doing that. I know that can be a pain when you have opened tabs and then come back and they are gone. So don't be to hard on him. I think that it's something about a lab top that is so much different that the pc. The pc you have to stay in on place. With the lab top if you have wireless service you don't have to stay stationary. You can walk all over the house with no problem and still be linked to the net. But if you have to set up your defense do so that would be really cute too. He sits down and starts to work and the message scares him. You can bet that he will ask why you did that too. Have a good one.

LOL I don't know if it would really work with him as he is quite stubborn! I wouldn't have minded but there is my old laptop as well as the main pc he could use. I did offer to set up an account for him on my laptop in case he did want to use it but he said no. Wouldn't be so bad but he did it again after that! Hugs xxx

Well honey all you have to do is respond to posts and get to know people , start posting some discussions of your own and the money will be updated every day! It is always a good idea to make some friends then you are more likely to get responses as you start posts but the more that you get to know people the more responses you are likely to get! Above all just enjoy yourself and have fun! xxx

Hi Mummymo, oooooooooh big hugs for you as you must be missing Niall and I have had to get an emergency passport for my daughter like that before for a school trip and believe me I know how much it costs too so not good eh! If I were you husband I would make myself scarce for the day and definitely avoid using your laptop. If there is another computer in the house he has no excuse eh! Ellie :D

£94 Ellie - not to mention the travelling and sitting around I had to do! I am missing him a little already - at least this time he is only away for 2 1/2 weeks - it is worse when he sometimes goes for a month!
David has realised just how much trouble he is in and has taken himself and Niamh off to his mums for the afternoon! lol

I am very protective over my computer and even though it was bought for all of us, I class it as mine. When I come on the computer it is to make money however big or small the amount, if anyone else comes on it they just want to mess about in chat rooms and on stupid pokemon chat sites. (This is my 16 year old I am talking about) Yes Pokemon at nearly 17!
Also the computer was mainly mine because my hubby has a laptop and my son had a laptop, the littler ones are too young in my opinion to be addicted to computers yet. My son lost his temper with his laptop a few weeks ago and broke it, so of course now he wants to go on MINE. So, being the good Mum that I am, I did him a deal, he can go on it when I fetch the kids from school until tea time at five o'clock, and then again while I take my kids up to bed and bath or wash them. So he gets about 4 hours or more computer time which is very fair.
Only one day he had been on his pokemon site and did not want his step dad to know, he gets it into his head that he is not allowed, this is not true my hubby just thinks he is a bit old for pokemon even though people as old as 40 are on this site. So he just gets a bit frustrated with my son for just going on it all the time. So because my son did not want my hubby to know he decides to delete his history of what he has been on, only he did not just delete his he deleted all mine too. OK so that is not a major catastrophe but all my passwords and all my sign ins were wiped off too and so I had a headache of going round everything and retrieving passwords. Now, I write them down in code so that I know them!

You are pretty generous with your son - I wouldn't let him near mine - especially if he had broken his own! He does get on the other computer but I try to limit his time cos he would spend all day every day online and I don't think that is such a good thing for a 14 year old!
I would have been so irritated if he had deleted all my history - that would really have annoyed me! lol Writing down your passwords in code is a good idea but I always forget where I put such things! I am going to have to change my password on my laptop to keep the other half out! Grrrr xxxx

LMAO OH Poor MoMo, Sugar, that is the very reason I break finger if anyone even sits down and looks at my keyboard. I have set Dad and Jake up with very nice systems each tailored what they like to do with a computer. Therefore there is no reason what so ever mine ever has to be touched with anyone elses hands. LMAO That also means if they screw theirs up and I have not had the time to sort them out they are just chit out of luck.
Before everyone had their own, I use to let Jake play games on mine, well one day he had a Disk with a game on it that came out of cereal LOL, he put the disk in and run it, good god it changed every setting my computer had, it changed my desktop my resolution, my internet home page, added so much spyware that it took me days to hunt it all down and kill it. From then on no one and I mean no one gets use of my computer! :)))) rotflmao I know bad mommy
But heck its self preservation. My computer is mine, just like my pantie drawer, there is no reason anyone has any business in it!

LOL What you don't let Mark in your panties drawer - spoilsport!
I have to say that I agree with you about your computer and I will cut off body parts if he tries it again - I mean it isn't even as if he is a kid who knows no better , he is an adult and a father and there are other computers he could have used! I think some kind of biometric passkey is needed if you open the laptop and if it isn't right an electric shock is given out! Yeah that sounds good to me! Any ideas on how to set that up? Hugs xxx

I don't think it would be the end of world, did you even tried to look into the history button on internet explorer, even Firefox has it, and you can order it in the way of the last visited web sites, well it don't always work up, but when my internet explorer have closes suddenly and I have lost all the windows and tabs I have opened I just go to check the browser history, but like I said it don't always is save but if you are luck and short it for recently visited sites you would find the last visited web sites, I think you would try to setting up a password for your windows user so he will not be able to close the tabs, but he is restart the laptop or turn it off you would lose it anyway, maybe you should install Firefox, because even if the computers is turned off without close the tabs, when you log in again, it will pop up and ask you if you want to continue your session on Firefox and it will open all the tabs you have before to turn it off, and even if you have type on some of them it will come back, it happened to me a few day ago, I was typing in a a discussion and the computer restarted because I got a power age, and when the power come back, and I got again in windows I got the message from Firefox asking me to continue my session and I accept and I was so surprise that I got all the text I have entered before, so I was able to continue.
maybe you should to check out this web site of Microsoft there is a better explanation about browser history.

I have an idea for you, how about making a file and naming it mylot so that you can put all the discussions that you want to answer but don't have the time to at the moment, put them in the mylot folder! I've done that and it saves me a lot of aggravation of trying to find them again for I'd have them in that folder. That way my inbox will be cleared out unless new ones come in. Just a passing thought for you. Good luck!

Hello mummymo,
Gosh that will really upset me. Could not put security password tin so no one can use the LapTop? I have only just started to learn how to use the computer so I wouldn't how to do that, but sure you do something like that. Put a block on it.
Good luck.
