Last month i learned i have an impacted wisdom tooth... and it has to be removed surgically (extracted). Woooo~ I'm gonna have both the left & right lower wisdom teeth removed next month so i'm a bit nervous (or scared?) about the oral surgery... This will be my first surgery ever!
My brother and cousins also had impacted teeth and had them surgically removed too. They all had a chipmunk face the first few weeks after the surgery. I guess it's kinda painful too because of the pain medication they were prescribed. But they don't complain about any problem so i guess it's okay.
So anyway, i just wanted to know if anyone here has experienced getting their wisdom tooth or teeth extracted or surgically removed? How did you feel during the healing period and after it healed?
How did you take care of your (oral) wound? How long did it heal?

What do you mean by impacted wisdom tooth... i never had one removed... when my dentist said that it is very difficult to remove a wisdom tooth... i got quite scared... so i make it a point to really brush it very hard everyday...
Well good luck on your tooth extraction... it will heal sooner than you think... just take care of yourself really well...

according to wikipedia, impacted wisdom teeth means : Wisdom teeth which are severely embedded in the jaw.
It can be infected even if you're not doing anything... so anyway it's still next month so wish me luck people! =)

Yes. It was not an emergency when I did it, but I was supposed to go abroad to Bolivia for a conference and no one wanted them to start acting up there. It was really awful. I bled the whole next day. I didn't even end up going to my conference because 9/11 happened and all flights were grounded. No Americans actually went to that conference except for one because he was in Bolivia traveling around before the conference. His problem was that he couldn't get home. He had to keep going to the American embassy everyday and they would give him survival money. This went on for about two weeks. I think he probably got home the third week of September.

I am sorry that you are having to have oral surgery. It will be okay though. It will be a little rough doing both sides at once but it won't be intolerable. They will geive you some pain pills wich will help and in a couple of days you will feel better than new. I am terrified of the dentist and just had a bunch of mouth work done. It was one of the best things I ever did. I feel so much better and my mouth feels better. Good luck to you and relax it will all be fine.

Mine was impacted but I was lucky that the extraction was like one would do to a normal tooth (it wasn't hidden under the jaw or anything like that). I was given painkillers but I didn't take any - my jaw was sore but I wasn't really in pain per se.
I was careful with stuff I ate (nothing too hard like peanuts and etc) and caring for my oral wound - the dentist recommended that I use Listerine (which is similar to the mouthwash/disinfectant they use) for gargling after brushing my teeth and eating to get rid of any particles that might get stuck. They used those threads that dissolve after a while so the wound closed nicely after a few days and another week later, the thread came out. :)
I have another wisdom tooth that's impacted and it's coming out from under the jawbone into the cheeks - it was annoying a week ago but now the swelling and throbbing has dropped, which is excellent. I'll be removing it when I go back to Kuala Lumpur next. Am in Switzerland now and dental treatments here cost a bomb! In Kuala Lumpur, I got mine done for free. :P

I have had my two top wisdom teeth out, but not surgically. The second was the worst, the dentist had to give me three injections but none of them worked. The pain was bearable, wasnt as bad as I had imagined it to be....:-)

I have not had to have my wisdom tooth removed yet but I have heard that it does hurt. My wisdom tooth keeps coming up but then it goes back down again. It has never bothered me though it is not apinful when it come up and down so I am leaving it alone.

whoa, i think that's a different kind of condition... don't you think you should have it checked out by a dentist?
anyway i think it's good that it doesn't hurt when it comes up or down... O_o"

My left upper wisdom tooth is also giving a little pain these days.Normally, after age 25 there is much lesser problem occurs.Wisdom teeth are the last to erupt they may become erupted too.impacted means that they become jammed in between the second molars & the bone back at the jaw. Many impacted teeth like yours need to have removed.Don't worry you may feel a little numbness after surgery. Then it will come back to normal.cheers...

I've never had it but I've known people who have. Like a normal dentist thing it's going to hurt and its probably going to hurt for 1-2 weeks. I hope the best for your teeth.(tehe)

I had a few teeth extractions but i can never imagine a wisdom tooth to be extracted. I think that's twice painful. My last surgery was with a molar. It wasn't really that painful because of the anesthesia. Good thing was it healed in just three days. And the afternoon after my surgery, I was able to brush my teeth.
Ill pray it goes well with you too.
