"Cats get no respect." (What bull!)

That's the statement that appeared in an article in today's magazine by a writer who is obviously predisposed to dogs. Mind you, I have nothing against dogs. But I think that cats make people earn respect, while dogs don't...really.
The writer also explained that the number of "I hate cats" letters outnumbered the "I hate dogs" letters by 50 to 1.
How any human can "hate" an animal, cat or dog, is beyond me. Cats especially don't deserve this hate. Indeed, they are MUCH smarter than dogs because they don't need to be trained like dogs do. They can train humans though. Plus, dogs have to be walked and babied, unlike cats. Give me a cat over a dog any day.

I guess the writer hasn't read the statistics that cats are fast outnumbering dogs as pets in the USA!!! I guess his/her readership must be all those dog owners, or others who are fearful that cats WILL one day RULE, while dogs DROOL!!!
I, too, love dogs, but they are not a good "fit" for our lifestyle. I do not have the time to take care of a dog, and cats ARE much more "self-caring"... but never completely!

I agree totally. Cats get a bad wrap because they don't kowtow to humans. They pick and choose who they like and whose lap they wish to sit on. Dogs go fawning over everyone, constantly looking for affection.
Cats are regal and independent. Some people can't stand that. I love cats. Doggies are just OK; and only specific ones that I have met.

I like dogs but I think that cats are awesome. I agree with you that cats demand respect and they will do what they want to. Cats are very intelligent and can take care of themselves. I have had a few cats over the years and if I had to choose between a dog and a cat I would have to take the cat everytime.
