Well... believe it or not, my Angel had the name "Fred" when he was in the shelter. FRED is NOT a name for a cat, in MY book! I feel the cat will name itself, if you "listen" hard and long enough. It took Angel nearly 2 months to "clue me in" on his name!
But naming animals is an individual thing, and everyone has different tastes. So, while, "puppy" or "zok" is OUT in MY book, too, they may not be in other's books. Such is life!

We've had some interesting names for our cats. The cat we had when my kids were growing up was Patches. Then came Divot and Baffy whose first dad was a golf pro. A baff is an obsolete golf club shaped like a slotted spoon to scoop golf balls out of carriage ruts. Then Arthur who came with the name R-2. Josie, the calico, whose coat of many colors gave her that name. Paisley, another calico, arrived after Peaches who came from Georgia with that name already. We also had Lady Claire, a regal black green-eyed Turkish Angora.
I'd like any new cat to be called Eli and/or Payton for the Manning brothers of football fame.

Those are some really cool names!! I remember my grandmother's cats names and OMG I used to think they were the weirdest lol ...she had one named Lammy-Pie, and one named McDuff.I think the most normal or average name she picked out for one of her cats was the name Cleo...she had others too, but I can't remember them all.

Some took one of the Cat's kittens and named him "Dog."
I think "Cat" "Dog" "Kitten" are all bad names. Don't know that Joyce or Zok are bad, but I do like to name my cats kind of odd names.
the Siamese I took in with the big sutured sore on his sholder I have renamed "Frankenkitty." We call him Frank or Frankie.
We named Chevron that because we trapped her at a Chevron station, but we call her Ronnie for short.
I named Tony that because we got him in San Antonio, his name is "really" Antonio, but we have always called him Tony. Heck, even before I had seen him, I knew we were going to call him/her Tony/Toni.
I named Solo that because he was a single birth, and it would've been Solo even if he had been a she.
